According to Ari Meirov, “#Cowboys star CB Trevon Diggs, returning from a torn ACL, has passed his physical and is being removed from the PUP list. He is expected to be on the practice field today.”
Being removed from physically unable to perform (PUP) list and passing a physical effectively allows players to return to the practice field. This is huge for the Cowboys, who will now get Diggs back with plenty of time to reintegrate him into the defensive plan for 2024.

Training camp is still ongoing, and teams are going to start getting ready for preseason games. Though Diggs has been cleared to return to practice, there is no telling if head coach Mike McCarthy will want him to play in any of the Cowboys’ three preseason contests.
Getting valuable reps matters, but it would likely be smarter to allow Diggs some more healing time before he steps onto the field. The Cowboys play the Cleveland Browns in Week 1, and they will need Diggs and the secondary to be on point to stop the passing attack of a fully healthy Deshaun Watson.
Diggs has been one of the brightest spots on the Cowboys’ defense, but he sadly tore his ACL during practice on Sep. 21, 2023, ending his season prematurely.
Diggs was coming off two back-to-back Pro Bowl nods in 2021 and 2022, and an All-Pro nod in 2021. His 2021 season saw Diggs lead the league with 11 interceptions, two defensive touchdowns, and 142 yards on those defensive touchdowns.
In 2022, Diggs secured 59 tackles, three interceptions, and 14 passes defended. Though he did not receive another All-Pro nod, he was named to his second Pro Bowl. The 2023 season was set to be another exciting one for Diggs. Even in his minimal two games, he secured one interception, one forced fumble, and three passes defended.
Even with missing Diggs for the entire 2023 season, the Cowboys were still one of the best in terms of allowing passing yards. They ranked fifth in the league for passing yards allowed per game at 187.4.
With Diggs back in the picture, the secondary for the team could return to an even more dangerous level. He is removed from back-to-back Pro Bowl nods, and the consensus is that he will return to that same level in 2024.
