Maryland Democrat U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen, a Democrat from Maryland, met deported illegal alien Kilmar Abrego Garcia on Thursday in El Salvador where he looked deeply into the eyes of the alleged wife-beater.
Van Hollen flew to El Salvador last week to meet Abrego Garca and bring him back to Maryland. He is currently being held in the CECOT (Centro de confinamiento del terrorismo) prison after being deported from the Trump administration. Van Hollen’s earlier attempts to meet Abrego Garca this week were rejected.
Abrego Garca had illegally entered the U.S. more than ten years ago. He settled in the Maryland suburbs near Washington, D.C. An immigration court and an appeals court have found him to be a member of MS-13. Last month, he was deported back to El Salvador despite an order from the immigration court that barred his return. This was part of a campaign by the Trump administration to deport Central American and South American gangs after President Trump designated them as Foreign Terrorist Organizations. The administration claims that the FTO designation nullifies the order barring the return of the man to El Salvador.
