Lara Trump has lashed out at Kamala Harris, comparing her to a $2,000 designer handbag that she deemed to be a “trash bag.”
The RNC co-chair made the comment during a FOX News interview on July 29 with Sean Hannity. Prior to the interview, Hannity referenced a New York Magazine edition titled “Welcome to Kamalot” with an image of Harris sitting on a large coconut. Hannity said, “The mob, the media, they are falling right in line to build her up.”
Hannity then discussed Harris’ record, and said, “It is by far the most radical of anybody that has ever run for the office of the presidency. I would argue in 98 days it is the job of the Republican Party, and the Trump campaign, to make sure every American knows this record backwards and forwards.”
Lara responded, “Sean you’re absolutely right because look I think we’ve very clearly seen that mainstream media and the folks out there are not going to do it for us, in fact they’re trying to re-write history.”

She continued, “It’s been incredible to see the way they have tried to prop up Kamala Harris and sell her as this amazing political figure to the American people. It reminds me of this bag that a very famous designer designed, this was several years ago, and it literally was a trash bag, but they sold this thing for like $2,000 thinking that people could actually buy it. It’s a similar situation with Kamala Harris.”
In 2022, luxury brand Balenciaga launched a garbage-bag-inspired purse that retails for $1,790.
Lara Trump, who is married to Dinald Trump’s son Eric, has been contacted by Newsweek for comment.
Her comments fall in line with increasingly personal attacks on Harris the Republicans have unleashed since the vice president was endorsed by Joe Biden when he withdrew from the presidential election.
On July 3, Donald Trump referred to her in a statement as Biden’s “Cackling Copilot.” At a rally in Michigan on July 20, he told the crowd: “I call her laughing Kamala. Have you seen her laughing? She is crazy. You can tell a lot by a laugh. She is nuts.”
Trump also made similar comments at St. Cloud in his 90-minute speech on Saturday, where he called Harris a “radical left lunatic” who was “evil” and “unhinged.”
The comedian Stephanie Jones, who refers to herself as “the Konservative Kamala,” also posted a video on TikTok on July 21 impersonating Harris and her laugh, receiving more than 2.6 million views.
Harris responded to the comments made about her laugh in an interview with Drew Barrymore in April, saying “I have my mother’s laugh. And I grew up around a bunch of women in particular who laughed from the belly. They laughed. They would sit around the kitchen, drinking their coffee, telling big stories with big laughs.”
The clip was re-posted on X on July 23 and has since received more than 6.2 million views.
Meanwhile, members of the Kamala Harris campaign have been calling Trump and his vice president JD Vance “weird,” and received criticism from Republicans as a result.
Steven Cheung, communications director for Trump, told Newsweek, “President Trump is a truth-teller, and there is nothing more unifying than telling the truth about a weak, failed, incompetent, and dangerously liberal Kamala Harris and her destructive policies.”
The vice president has been contacted by Newsweek for comment.
