A “sassy” puppy called Lemon has left the internet in stitches after getting caught on camera talking back to her owner when she got told off for her behavior.

In the hilarious clip, shared TikTok on Wednesday under the username thelifeoflemon, the golden retriever puppy from Cairns can be seen standing on top of the steps at the front of the house, trying to break out and go play.

However, her owner, who had just washed her, would not have any of it. “You’re clean, let’s keep it that way,” she can be heard saying, as the pup barks back at her, and layover text on the video says: “How bout no.”

“You’re not going out there and rolling in mud again,” the poster then adds: “You can cry all you want honey. it’s not going to change the outcome.”

Most puppies start out loud, but it’s possible to train them to be quite, although it does take time and dedication.

The best way to train a puppy, according to the American Kennel Club, is by using positive reinforcement. This method sees the owner rewarding the pup after positive behavior, or after learning something new, and ignoring their bad behavior.

It’s important to chose the right reward, like toys and treats your pup likes, and to only make your dog earn them, and never just give them away for free.

To keep the good work up, it’s important to be consistent in your training, and ask everyone who handles the pup to be consistent too.

“For example, if you don’t want your dog jumping on you when you’re in your work clothes, don’t allow it when you’re in your sweatpants, either. After all, your dog won’t understand the difference between the two scenarios,” the website adds.

The video quickly went viral on social media, getting viewers from across TikTok. It has so far received over 545,700 views and 48,800 likes on the platform.

One user, lolnihearga, commented: “My retriever is also sassy, love how the other dog is so unbothered.”

Loki said: “But moooooom all her friends are playing in the mud.”

Colee added: “My dog was next to me and was so worried about the puppy.”
