Donald Trump has taken on the illegal payments made to platforms for fundraising by foreigners and others.
ActBlue, the main Democratic fundraising platform, was also targeted by Trump’s DOJ.
Donald Trump directed the Justice Department on Thursday to investigate the primary fundraising platform used for Democrats. They responded by accusing him of simply using the government as a weapon against his political rivals.
The Republican leader has signed a memo instructing Pam Bondi, Attorney General of Florida, to investigate alleged foreign and illicit payments made to platforms such as ActBlue. ActBlue is used by Democrats for processing donations to online campaigns and causes.

On April 2, three House committees — the judiciary, administration, and oversight — issued a report claiming that “extensive fraudulent activity… including fraud from foreign sources” was occurring on ActBlue. They also accused ActBlue of lowering their prevention efforts.
According to the investigation, almost 500 pages in internal ActBlue documents that were released along with its report “demonstrate an unwillingness to stop fraud and paint a portrait of complacency.”
ActBlue is used by Democrats since over 20 years.
ActBlue, a tool that Democratic campaigns have been using for 20 years, has helped to drive a flood of small dollar donations to candidates and charities. It was so popular that Republicans created their own version, WinRed, which Trump didn’t target in his order.
Michael Whatley, the Republican National Committee chair, applauded this investigation and said in a press release that “the Democrats’ Dark Money Scam has been going on for too long.”
