Courtney Clenney’s Parents Fight to Reclaim Digital Data as Trial Looms

Former OnlyFans model Courtney Clenney appeared in a Miami-Dade court on Wednesday along with her parents as they requested to get their digital data back.

Courtney Clenney, 28, is facing murder charges for the stabbing death of her boyfriend Christian “Toby” Obumseli in their luxury Florida condo in 2022. That August, Courtney Clenney was arrested on second-degree murder charges while in Hawaii, where she was undergoing treatment for substance abuse and PTSD. She claims the stabbing incident was self-defense.

Courtney and her parents Kim and Debroah Clenney were previously accused of accessing Obumseli’s laptop after his death. During their investigation, detectives secured a search warrant for Courtney’s accounts as well as those of her parents, Kim and Deborah Clenney.

Their findings led prosecutors to file computer crime charges against the entire family, which were dropped in July. However, the State still possesses hard drives of their data, which the parents either want to be returned or destroyed.

The judge ultimately ruled Wednesday for prosecutors to keep the files so they can review them for information relevant to Courtney’s murder case.

But that decision didn’t go down without a fight. Prosecutors argued Wednesday that claimed while the Clenney parents are entitled to privacy the iCloud data provided to them belongs to Apple. Courtney Cleeney’s defense attorney claimed the search warrants for the parents’ data was “the definition of a fishing expedition” that would expose their private medical and financial information.

Courtney’s attorneys also asked the judge to consider releasing her since the accused murderer has been in custody since August 10, 2022. The judge said she will address this motion at a later time. Her next court date is set for October 8 at 1:30 p.m.

On April 3, 2022, Courtney Clenney called the police to report that Obumseli had been stabbed during an argument between them. Police bodycam footage showed Clenney covered in blood, claiming she had stabbed Obumseli in self-defense.
Clenney said that Obumseli, a cryptocurrency investor, had thrown her to the ground, prompting her to grab a knife and throw it at him from 10 feet away.

However, the medical examiner determined that Obumseli’s fatal stab wound, which severed his subclavian artery, could not have resulted from a knife thrown from such a distance.

Eleven minutes before Courtney Clenney called 911 to report Obumseli was “dying” a neighbor had already called 911 to report a disturbance at their apartment.

On the day of the incident, Clenney’s mom Deborah, in a recorded statement to police, mentioned hearing Clenney yelling at Obumseli to leave and accusing him of “lying.” However, she denied discussing the altercation between Clenney and Obumseli with her daughter.

Investigators later found a text message from Deborah on Courtney’s phone, timestamped at 5:25 p.m. on April 3. The message mentioned self-defense and advised Clenney not to speak with investigators without legal representation.

Following her arrest, elevator security footage from their condo emerged, showing Clenney attacking Obumseli. Clenney’s lawyer maintains she was defending herself from domestic abuse while Obumseli’s family contended that she is receiving preferential treatment due to racial biases.
