A Californian dad has melted hearts on the internet after he realized the significance of the number on his wife’s birthday candles.
In the video, Kina Hermida is celebrating her 51st birthday with her husband, Luis, and two daughters, Hailey and Denisse. Holding the candles in his hands, Luis flips them around, a nod to their first-ever birthday celebration when she was 15 years old.
Hailey Hermida, who posted the video on the family’s TikTok account (@thehermidas), wrote on the text overlay: “POV [point of view]: your dad turns everything romantic.”

Daughter 16-year-old Hailey told Newsweek that if you flip the candles around, it signifies the age her mom (right) was when her dad, Luis, (left) celebrated her birthday for the first time.

“My dad has this way of turning even the simplest things into something romantic, or as we like to call him ‘extra’. This time, it was with birthday candles, but it can be the most random things,” Hailey, who turns 17 this month, told Newsweek.
She said that her dad makes romantic gestures unexpectedly, like the time he made breakfast and a small bouquet with some flowers from their backyard to present with the meal.
At the end of the clip, Luis thanks Kina for “putting up with him.” The 51-year-old replies, “you’re welcome, my king.” Taken aback, Luis quips: “Oh, I thought you were going to say it was no problem.”
Hailey’s video has clocked up over 802,000 views since it was posted on July 18. There have been hundreds of comments from other social-media users who were delighted to see the moment Luis joined the dots.
“Your parents are so cute,” one user wrote, while another commented: “I’m sobbing in bed alone right now.”
Others realized just how long it would take them to reach this milestone: “I met my man at 19 so I have to wait till 91 to have this moment,” one user added.
Another shared that they were turning 47 that week and had been celebrating birthdays with their husband since they were 16.
Hailey told Newsweek how proud it makes her to see her parents so in love: “They got married young and have been through a lot together, but they’ve always managed to stay strong by laughing through life and supporting each other. They’re genuinely best friends.“
Like any couple, they have their disagreements, “but they always stay respectful and keep that friendship as the foundation of their relationship,” Hailey said.
