One of the strangest situations from the start of the college football season came from Ann Arbor, Michigan as the Wolverines and head coach Sherrone Moore entered the season without a contract in place. This is pretty rare to happen but the defending national champions hadn’t put a deal in place with their coach.
That all changed on Wednesday as Moore announced he had finally agreed to a deal with the program.
“Our University of Michigan administration led by president Santa Ono and athletic director Warde Manuel has been tremendous throughout this process, and I am excited to have this full contract completed,” Moore said in a statement. “Their support for our team is greatly appreciated and all three of us are aligned in our goals for this football program. We want the attention to be on the players that work so hard to represent this team and university at the highest level. All my focus is and always will be centered on the mental, physical, and spiritual development of the young men that suit up to play for Michigan. Go Blue!”
Having Moore under contract now gives the Wolverines one less thing to worry about. They already are having some troubles on the field, highlighted by their blowout loss at home to the Texas Longhorns over the weekend.

There was always going to be some sort of hangover from this program after winning the championship a year ago, combined with the reality that multiple talented players left for the NFL.
But not many saw the downfall of Michigan coming so quickly.

Texas was able to do pretty much whatever they wanted against the Wolverines’ defense last weekend. They gashed Michigan both on the ground and through the air, a rarity against the Wolverines, especially at The Big House.
Moore will bear the weight of responsibility for how the program succeeds and has some tough shoes to follow. Former Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh left for the NFL, leaving the program in some disarray.
The school is facing a potential punishment from the NCAA as part of an alleged sign stealing operations. Moore was the team’s offensive coordinator during his and could face penalties if the investigation determines any wrongdoing occurred.

But for now, Moore will turn his sights toward Arkansas State for this coming weekend. Michigan sits with a record of 1-1 on the season through two games.
