The New York Jets have found themselves in a tough situation with recently acquired Haason Reddick. Reddick was traded to the Jets in April for a conditional third-round pick. The hope was that the Jets and Reddick would come to an agreement on a new contract, but that has yet to transpire.

Reddick decided to hold out to secure a new deal, skipping minicamp and training camp. He also has yet to show up at all now that the regular season has kicked off.
The Jets’ defense would be even scarier with Reddick, but the front office’s refusal to provide a new deal has left them with what could be an ultimatum situation.
That situation is to either pay Reddick or trade him.
Despite the situation not nearing a resolution, a new report from ESPN indicates that the Jets might have no choice but to trade Reddick.

Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reported on rumblings from around the NFL, with many executives now weighing in on the Reddick situation. According to numerous reports:
“The Haason Reddick saga rolls on with no end in sight. Both sides appear dug in as the Jets wait for the defensive end to report to work. He remains on the reserve/did not report list and just forfeited a $791,666 game check on top of the more than $5 million in NFL-mandated fines he accumulated leading up to Week 1. Even those close to Reddick aren’t exactly sure when he might reverse course and clock in at One Jets Drive. The bad blood has boiled over, and now teams around the league are curious as to what the Jets will do if he doesn’t show.”
It appears that many who are close to the situation view an impasse for Reddick and the Jets. Though the hope was that a new deal would be put in place, a trade is far more likely.
“The latter [a trade] is looking more likely, according to multiple league execs. “Not sure they have a choice,” an NFC executive said. “They wouldn’t get similar value back [a third-rounder], but it would be hard [for the Jets] to pay him at this point, and he clearly doesn’t want to be there. Both sides badly mismanaged the situation.”

Reddick wants a new deal and has stood firmly on that fact. If the Jets are not prepared to facilitate that, then they will have no choice but to trade him. Well, they could keep him on the reserve/did not report list, but that would just be a waste of trade capital they can acquire.
It’s better to trade Reddick and get some draft capital while his value is as high as it is right now.
