Harrison Burton’s playoff contention continues to be a hot topic in the lead-up to this weekend’s Go Bowling at the Glen. Burton, who secured his playoff spot with a sensational last-lap victory at Daytona over Kyle Busch, leapt from P34 into playoff contention, dramatically shaking up the standings and eliminating several top frontrunners.
Initially, there was skepticism about Burton’s legitimacy in the top 16, but his presence on the grid is gradually gaining acceptance. However, the driver’s journey in the playoffs hasn’t been without challenges.
During the race at Atlanta Motor Speedway, Burton’s ambitions suffered a blow. A late-race crash relegated him to a disappointing 31st-place finish, negatively impacting his standings and leaving him precariously positioned on the bubble for the top 12 in playoff points.
Despite this, veteran driver Brad Keselowski has emerged as a vocal supporter of Burton amid the controversies surrounding him.

“You’re a race winner. Make sure you have a ride for the all-star race, whoever that is,” Keselowski said, via FOX Sports. Alongside this drama, Wood Brothers Racing has opted not to continue with him for the 2025 season, leaving Burton without a confirmed ride for the coming year.
Burton’s career trajectory has been the subject of much analysis. His entry into the playoffs has blown up his profile as a promising talent in the NASCAR season, positioning him as a potential candidate for other teams. Yet, with the grid for the upcoming season nearly full, securing a ride for 2025 remains a formidable challenge for the young driver.
But add on another performance similar to that which we just saw, and his credibility could shoot upwards.
Several of Burton’s peers have come forward to endorse his playoff place. Tyler Reddick was quick to draw parallels between Burton’s first victory in his 98th start and the career paths of other successful drivers like Chase Elliott and Kyle Larson, stating:
“He won in his 98th career start, and so did Chase Elliott and Kyle Larson. I think he’s set. He’ll figure it out.”
Kyle Larson has been particularly encouraging, citing Burton’s positive attitude and the influence of his father, Jeff Burton.
“He [Burton] seems like a positive person with a great mindset. He’s got a great mentor in his dad [Jeff Burton]…. You’ve just got to be positive; take each race in the playoffs week by week; try and do a good job,” Larson said.
“These next 10, more eyes are on you with yourself being in the playoffs. Whatever that next opportunity is, try to take advantage of it, work hard, run up front if you can, and just be a good leader for your team.”
Moreover, drivers like Denny Hamlin, Ryan Blaney, and Daniel Suarez have also spoken positively about Burton’s potential, reinforcing the notion that he has the talent and drive to succeed. Of course, with so many eyes on him, the pressure is on.
