Good morning, I’m Daniel Orton, Live News Editor at Newsweek, here to take us through the latest election developments in the early hours.
Several polls released yesterday and this morning show that while Vice President Kamala Harris has an edge over former President Donald Trump in some battleground states, including Pennsylvania, the national race remains a toss-up, with 47 days to go until Election Day.
Here’s a quick overview of where the candidates are going to be today:
➡️Harris will be in Michigan for a “Unite for America” livestream event with Oprah Winfrey. It will kick off at 8 p.m. ET across platforms including YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and Twitch. The event will bring together 140 groups – including Latinas for Harris and White Dudes for Harris – to encourage people to vote.
➡️Trump meanwhile is headed to Washington, D.C. for what his campaign has billed as a “Fighting Anti-Semitism in America Event.” After that, he is due to speak at the Israeli American Council’s national conference, also in the capital.

ICYMI: RFK Jr. Handed New Legal Loss in Crucial Swing State for Trump
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has lost a federal appeal of Michigan’s decision to keep him on the ballot in this year’s presidential election, potentially dealing a blow to former President Donald Trump.
Kennedy, who suspended his presidential campaign and endorsed Trump last month, sued Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson after she denied his request to remove his name from the state’s ballots, despite missing a deadline to do so.
Michigan’s Natural Law Party nominated Kennedy as its candidate earlier this year and has opposed his request to remove his name from the ballot, citing concerns about being able to place candidates on ballots in future elections.

Tim Pool Sues Kamala Harris HQ Over ‘Project 2025’ Post
Conservative podcaster Tim Pool is suing Kamala Harris‘ presidential campaign for allegedly claiming that he was advocating a Donald Trump dictatorship.
In a lawsuit filed in a West Virginia federal court on Tuesday, Pool claims that the Harris campaign falsely said that he backed the Project 2025 plan to put Donald Trump in the White House. It also states that the Harris campaign claimed Pool was advocating the execution of political enemies.
The legal action followed a post by the Harris campaign on X, formerly Twitter, over the Labor Day weekend.

Trump’s Long Island Crowd Photos Fuel GOP Talk of Battle for New York
MAGA world is dreaming of a surprise presidential election victory in New York as photos of a packed Long Island rally for former President Donald Trump go viral.
President Joe Biden won New York by 23 percentage points in 2020 and the state is not considered by most to be in play this year. While polling of the 2024 election has been limited pertaining to New York, every poll released since Vice President Kamala Harris became the Democratic candidate has shown her leading Trump in the state by double digits.
With less than 50 days before Election Day, and despite chances of a Trump win in the Empire State appearing slim, the former president spoke before an enthusiastic crowd of supporters in Uniondale on Wednesday at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, a venue with a capacity of 16,000.

Nate Silver says race could remain a toss-up until Election Day
Should be very slightly positive for Harris on net. People probably need to be realistic about the possibility that the election will remain in toss-up range straight thru to Nov. 5.
