The hilarious moment a dog’s nail-trimming session left his owner with some regret has gained viral attention online.

Instagram user @iam_chuenchuen shared how the trimming turned into a fur-covered fiasco in a video that has garnered more than 100,000 likes on the app.

The video opens with Chuen Chuen, an white adorable Lab mix, innocently getting comfortable in his bed. But the video then pans to the dog’s owner, absolutely covered in the pet’s shed white fur, a clear indication of the battle that just took place.

“A long fight to cut his nails…” the caption read, reflecting a struggle that dog owners know all too well.

Contrary to popular belief, not all dogs despise having their nails clipped—but many, like Chuen Chuen, put up quite the fight. For some, it’s a combination of the physical discomfort of the process and the dislike of being restrained. For others, it’s simply the unfamiliarity with the tools and sounds that set off the drama.

While dogs may not love having nails trimmed, it is essential for their health. Regular nail-trimming prevents issues such as pain from overgrown nails, potential injury, and even difficulties with mobility.

In the post’s comments people were quick to share their sympathies and own experiences of nail clipping.

“Did you win?” asked Bigbabygorilla after seeing the “battle” aftermath. While Sharylfriendp wrote: “I have to take my dog to the vet to get her nails clipped. I’m getting too old for the fight.”

“You could make a chihuahua with all that,” said Yubnub605.

A fellow dog owner had some advice from their own experience. “My senior rescue turns into a scared eel when we’ve tried to cut her nails. So we tried groomers and the vets and, after 2 years she’s still a nightmare. Just recently, I bought a nail grinder and she falls asleep when I use it on her,” said user Clearjewelz.

Experts recommend easing dogs into the process gradually by introducing them to the trimming tool first. Mary Burch, director of the American Kennel Club’s family dog program and a certified applied animal behaviorist previously told Newsweek to allow pets to sniff and investigate the tool before using it.

For anyone attempting their own Chuen Chuen-inspired nail-trimming adventures, Burch also had some tips: make it a gradual process, take breaks and reward your pet with treats.

If all else fails, make sure you’re prepared to wear their fur like a badge of honor—just like this viral video’s star.

Newsweek reached out to @iam_chuenchuen via Instagram for comment.
