A viral video of a dachshund dressed up as a dinosaur has melted hearts on social media after his owner was told everyone at doggy daycare would wear a costume, but no one else did.
The heartwarming clip, shared on TikTok on Thursday by @sammy02k, shows the dachshund pup from Portland walking on a leash with his mom on his way home from daycare wearing a dinosaur costume.
“When mom tells me everyone is dressing up at daycare. and no one showed up in costume,” reads the layover text on the clip. The caption says: “It was a silent ride home.”
Doggy daycare is convenient because it provides a safe place for the pups while their owners work during the day, and it also allows dogs to socialize with each other and with other humans.
All dogs need exercise to keep healthy and avoid diseases like obesity, and doggy daycare provides enough exercise to help your dog combat these risks, even if you don’t have time to take them for a walk after picking them up.
While this is a great service for working dog owners, it isn’t exactly cheap. Although the exact price depends on various factors, including your dog, location, and the type of services the facility provides, it’s usually around $40 per day, according to dog wellness experts Hepper.
“You may be able to secure a half day for around $30, which gives your dog between 4-5 hours of play,” Hepper’s website says.
With Halloween around the corner, doggy daycares are beginning to throw costume parties, and dog owners are coming up with some incredible costumes.
According to the Canine Journal, the top 10 costumes that people expect to dress their pets up in this year include pumpkin, hot dog, bat, ghost, bumble bee, cat, spider, witch and lion.
The video quickly went viral on TikTok. It has received over 16.4 million views and 2.3 million likes on the platform so far.
One TikTok user, Ariel, commented: “No cause when no one participates in theme days it’s breaks my heart whether it’s people or dogs whatever the world needs more fun.”
TikToker Rachel said, “I know and it always makes me so sad for the people that set it up.”
Another user, Opal…JenX wrote: “We dressed ours up little a turtle for ‘dress your dog up day’ and he was the only one who showed up in costume.”
Kay commented: “He’s not even looking at you! lololol he was so embarrassed lolol.”
