A man has delighted the internet with his thoughtful gesture that allows his wife to follow one of her favorite shows even when she’s occupied doing other things.
Millions of Netflix users have been gripped by the latest series of Emily in Paris, which was released in two parts across August and September. While many see it as a guilty pleasure to have on in the background, the French-speaking scenes with English subtitles require full attention for those who don’t speak the language. This was proving somewhat problematic for Kittsie Klaes of Houston, Texas, who owns a needlepoint shop and is usually busy creating new designs.
Fortunately, Klaes came up with a genius way to work around it, telling Newsweek that she “enlisted the help” of her husband Davis to read the subtitles out loud. That way, she doesn’t have to look up from her needlepoint but still gets to follow along with Emily Cooper’s latest antics.
“Needlepoint requires a lot of attention, and it can be difficult to look up with regularity to read the subtitles,” Klaes said. “This turned out to be a huge help as we watched the entire season, and we made lots of progress on our needlepoint projects.”

It was certainly appreciated, but Klaes joked that her husband also “leaves a lot to be desired,” and maybe isn’t the most thorough when reading them out.
At the time, she invited a few of her friends over to watch the latest series of Emily in Paris. That may not seem like a dream evening for Davis, but Klaes thinks he secretly enjoyed being the translator and getting to watch the show with them.
“I love spending time with my husband whenever I can, and honestly I think he wanted an excuse to watch the series,” she told Newsweek. “I think he’s a secret fan of the show. He always claims I can watch without him, but I didn’t hear him complaining when we had him come to my friend’s house to read the subtitles for us.”
Footage of Davis reading the subtitles out loud for his grateful wife was shared on her TikTok account (@the_courtly_canvas) and it delighted social media users. Since the clip was posted on September 17, it has generated more than 655,300 views and over 36,900 likes on TikTok.
The online reaction to the video has amazed Klaes, who never imagined that so many people would relate to it. But as it turns out, there are plenty of fans out there who want to keep watching the show while trying to accomplish other tasks.
Klaes continued: “Honestly the reaction has been overwhelming and fun to watch. We did not realize it would resonate with so many people, but it seems like it hit a perfect overlap of stitchers and other crafters as well as fans of Emily in Paris.
“I absolutely love needlepointing. It is such a relaxing hobby, and it has taken my nightly TV time and turned it into a productive chance to make gifts for other people.”
Many TikTok users have hailed the gesture, with one person commenting: “Wow this speaks to me! People who finally understand the struggle watching Emily in Paris.”
Another person responded: “He’s your soulmate.”
“Ok I need my husband to do this because I was crocheting and couldn’t keep up so had to switch shows,” added another TikTok user.
A third commenter wrote: “This is sooo cute! The vibes in that room are incredible.”
