A video of a woman showing off her unintentional hair style has left the internet roaring with laughter.

However @alixsmidlifecrisis looks far from amused as she films herself in the car showing off her slicked-back look. The text overlaid sarcastically explains: “Good thing my hair tie snapped off my head [on the way] to work.”

The video has attracted 1.1 million views and almost 100,000 likes since it was shared on September, 6.

While Alix looks disappointed, many users have managed to see the bright side, with one person even comparing her hair to one of Kim Kardashian‘s red carpet looks.

Newsweek discussed the importance of maintaining a well-kept appearance at work with careers expert Victoria McLean.

The founder and CEO of career coaching service City CV said: “Scientists believe 55% of first impressions are based on what we see. It may sound superficial, but it’s an unavoidable fact that your appearance influences how you’re perceived at work – and that includes even the smallest details, like hair.

“A polished, professional look isn’t about adhering to rigid standards or snuffing out your own individuality. Fun hair colours and bold styles are becoming much more common in the office, especially as younger generations enter the workforce. And for many, hair is tied to cultural identity. Initiatives like The Halo Code are helping to break down the barriers for Black employees, ensuring Afro-textured and protective hairstyles are de-stigmatized.”

In this instance, Alix was dressed for the occassion while experiencing a bad hair day. However, she has since shared an update reassuring people that she has multiple hair ties in her bag along with products.

McLean told Newsweek: “Hair can even become an integral part of your personal brand, helping people remember or recognize you. Maintaining a professional appearance is about feeling confident, empowered and respected. You can be as expressive as you like (although – always read the room first), but you must ensure you look put-together.

“It’s all part of the broader picture of how we present ourselves professionally, and a cohesive appearance will make you seem more credible, or trustworthy, or authoritative, or all three.”

TikTok Reacts

So far, the video has received a mixture of comments expressing a range of emotions.

“This is why I always keep extra in my purse. This is my biggest fear,” said one user and another suggested: “Put a hair tie on your keys! I’m always ready for this exact situation.”

“I’m having a terrible day and this made me genuinely laugh so thank you,” praised a third user.

Newsweek reached out to @alixsmidlifecrisis for comment. We couldn’t verify the details of the case.
