According to Spotify, Call Her Daddy is the most-listened-to podcast by women, known for its candid, and sometimes NSFW, conversations about sex, mental health, and women’s issues. Politics were never an element of the podcast until host Alex Cooper made headlines by inviting both presidential candidates on and interviewing Vice President Kamala Harris. Though the 30-year-old podcaster she said she was conflicted about bringing politics into the “Daddy gang,” she ultimately decided that she “couldn’t see a world in which one of the main conversations in this election is women, and I’m not a part of it.”
Cooper knew that the move would be controversial. “I am so aware I have a very mixed audience when it comes to politics,” she said in the intro to the interview. “Please hear me when I say my goal today is not to change your political affiliation. What I’m hoping is that you’re able to listen to a conversation that isn’t too different than the ones that we’re having here every week.”

Cooper said in her introduction that she also invited former president Donald Trump to join her on the podcast, but noted that his team had not responded, which was noted by some listeners. “Many Trump fans who are Call Her Daddy listeners criticized Alex earlier today for not having Trump on, but it turns out they were wrong,” said one X user who posted a video of Cooper’s intro.
The online community has been weighing in about the Vice President’s decision to speak on this less-than-traditional platform, as well as Cooper’s decision to host her. Here are some of the most interesting reactions:
Many people praised Cooper and Harris’s performances.
I really need everyone to understand how big Call Her Daddy/Alex Cooper is:
—Second-most popular podcast in the world; 5+ million downloads a week
—Most-listened to podcast among women ages 18-24
—Reaches a lot of people who are NOT politicalSo, yes, this matters & is huge.

This was so excellent. Thanks for asking questions that matter to all women
I wish your audience could see it for what it is, an interview with a presidential candidate. Trump won’t accept your invitation because he fears strong women, which speaks volumes

Some of the people who heard the interview specifically called out Cooper’s business acumen and how she’d grown since her show debuted.
“The way Alex Cooper has grown from being a sort of Barstool sorority girl personality archetype to owning her show, signing 60 then 125 million dollar deals with distributors, and growing into someone doing well done interviews with the likes of Kamala Harris should be applauded” said one user.
On the other hand, some listeners were highly critical of Cooper and of Harris.
I’m sorry but Alex Cooper has got to be the worst interviewer of all time

“I’m sorry but Alex Cooper has got to be the worst interviewer of all time,” said an X user, while also noting in a separate post that “Watching anchors have to say “Call Her Daddy” all day is cracking me up today.”
No political candidate with even a shred of self-respect would even consider going on that trashy podcast.

In the comments section on Instagram, results were similarly mixed.
“Oh Kamala… Alex could never make me like you. Trump 2024,” said one user. On the other hand, another follower expressed shock that people were criticizing Cooper’s choice to invite Harris on the show. “Imagine being a woman following a woman who created a podcast for the health/interest of women and being upset that she’s interviewing a woman who might potentially become the first woman president of the United States,” they wrote
Harris’s critics frequently cited the devastation of Hurricane Helene as a reason that the Vice President shouldn’t be spending her time doing press at all.
“Unfollowed. Thousands are suffering in the aftermath of the worst hurricane in 50+ years and she’s on a podcast?” asked one such critic on X.
Though the move to have Harris on the podcast apparently lost Call Her Daddy several thousand followers, Harris has been praised by advocates against sexual violence, as well as former Obama staffer Tommy Vietor. There is no doubt that the move has ignited debate and conversation in the last month before the presidential election.
