Piers Morgan Issues Nearly Unprecedented Statement to Beyonce and Jay-Z

Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek’s network of contributors

Piers Morgan is owning up to an admittedly big mistake he made on-air while Beyoncé and Jay-Z were brought up during a discussion about the alleged sex crimes against Diddy.

The 59-year-old British host — who rarely apologizes for his controversial takes on celebrities — issued a public apology to the A-listers when one of the guests on his Uncensored show brought up “totally false” allegations about the power couple. Morgan’s apology comes after Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s legal team sent a strongly-worded message to him for allowing such claims to be discussed in the video.

The controversial British host issued an extremely rare apology to Beyonce and Jay-Z after a guest on his ‘Uncensored’ show made serious allegations against the A-list couple.

Last week, Morgan conversed with guest Jaguar Wright in a discussion focused on Sean “Diddy” Combs’ September arrest and federal charges for sex trafficking, racketeering conspiracy and transportation to engage in prostitution. (The disgraced Bad Boy mogul — who is also facing lawsuits from more than 100 accusers, including minors — has pleaded not guilty to the federal charges and plans to testify in court.)

In his interview with Morgan, Wright, a singer, (falsely) roped Jay-Z into the Diddy discussion, referring to both hip-hop giants as “monsters.” Furthermore, Wright alleged that Jay-Z and Beyoncé have hundreds of victims of their own.

In a statement on Wednesday, October 9, Morgan shared the following:

“Jaguar, unexpectedly, made several serious allegations about Jay-Z and Beyoncé during that interview. As I said in the moment, they were not present to respond or defend themselves, but now they have,” he noted. “Their lawyers contacted us to say that those claims were ‘totally false’ and have no basis in fact, and we’ve therefore complied with a legal request to cut them from the original interview.”

Morgan pointed out that while “editing interviews is not something we do lightly at a show called Uncensored, but like the proverbial cries of fire in a crowded theater, there are legal limits on us, too. And we apologize to Jay-Z and Beyoncé.”

The Uncensored host added: “The thing about platforms, the reality of the modern world is that pretty much everyone has a platform as long as they have something to say that other people want to hear,” Morgan explained of the decision to allow Wright on the show in the first place. “That’s why we invited [Wright] on to be interviewed. The people making these claims have an audience with or without shows like mine.”

Pop culture fans know that an apology from Morgan is extremely rare. The host regularly shares his controversial opinions and claims about stars — Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in particular — and is well-known to be abashedly unapologetic in doing so.
