Dachshund Won’t Stop Trying To Befriend Foster Kittens: ‘Let Me Love You’
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

One dog won’t take no for an answer while trying to befriend new foster kittens in a recent Instagram video.

Lemon, a dachshund, is no stranger to welcoming kittens into the house. Her owner Remi, known on Instagram as @remdawgs, told Newsweek that they typically foster kittens younger than 8 weeks or orphaned. The younger the kittens are, the easier it is for them to accept Lemon, Remi said.

However, the most recent kittens to come in as fosters didn’t exactly show an accepting attitude when Lemon tried joining them in their crate. In an October 5 Instagram video, Lemon happily waltzed inside the crate to join the kittens. The two babies backed away, meowing in protest, but Lemon didn’t give up. She wanted to be with them and love them—whether they liked it or not.

“The kittens and Lemon did previously meet via a gate,” the owner explained. “The kittens had expressed interest so I did then let Lemon come in and meet them!”

While it wasn’t exactly the reaction Lemon hoped for, she shouldn’t feel alone. The owner shared in the comment section that the kittens do the same to her, acting fake scared but then meowing nonstop for food.

And thankfully, the kittens are starting to come around to the idea of being friends with Lemon. Sinead, also known as Sisi, is more accepting of Lemon than Ozzy.

“Sisi will hang around Lemon, whereas Ozzy is curious and walks around Lemon but doesn’t want to engage quite yet face to face,” she said. “He prefers to play with her tail.”

They aren’t “the best of friends yet,” but they appear to be getting closer to that point. Plus, there is still time for that bond to form. The owner said the kittens still need one more vaccine before adoption. She expects about two more weeks together.

The Instagram clip amassed over 1.5 million views, 108,000 likes and 482 comments as of Thursday.

People commented on what was likely going through Lemon’s mind: “Shut up, I don’t care, let me take care of you.”

Another viewer wrote: “Lemon said, ‘LET ME LOVE YOU.'”

A third person pointed out: “One of the kittens already accepted fate and just laid there at the end.”
