Owner Thought Dog Wouldn’t Accept New Rescue, Turns Out He Was Wrong

Because dogs are pack animals, many owners add a second canine to the family for companionship, but whether or not they get along often becomes a worry. However, that concern melted away for one family as their dog and newest addition clicked instantly.

The owner told Newsweek via Reddit that the family had their small brindle dog, Wingnut, for about a year. She was originally picked up off the streets of New Mexico as a puppy and she became used to being the only dog in the family,

They had Wingnut’s old foster parent babysit her for about a week and during that time, she bonded with another foster dog with six puppies. On hearing that they bonded, they felt it was important to adopt her as well.

“She had always been the only dog pet so we were worried she would not love the idea of having to share her people or toys,” he said. “Turns out she didn’t mind at all.”

In the October 13 post on the subreddit channel r/DOG, the owner posted photos revealing how Wingnut adjusted to the family’s second dog, Nora. Whatever stress or worry might have plagued the family before the dogs met immediately vanished. The owner said in the comment section that “there was never a moment where they didn’t get along.”

Every picture in the Reddit post shows the bond growing stronger and stronger. They can’t stay off each other, snuggling whenever the opportunity presents itself. And like true siblings, they play and bicker with each other.

The last photo captured what it truly means to be siblings; snarling at each other comes with the territory. The owner wrote in the comment section that the sibling rivalry especially emerges when the little one won’t let the other dog on the couch. She likes to keep it to herself to snuggle the owners. Otherwise, the dogs are two peas in a pod and get along “perfectly.”

The heartwarming post quickly struck a chord with viewers, bringing in over 11,000 upvotes on Reddit within two days. Realizing how much their love for each other made people smile, the owner created an Instagram account (@wingnut_and_nora) for people to continue watching their relationship blossom.

“Looks like besties to me. Love this,” said one Redditor, while another added: “Made for each other.”

A third person said: “That’s a perfect match! Sooo much BETTER to have dogs; in pairs. They are very much social animals.”

Introducing Dogs at Home

While dogs are social animals and most love the company of other canines, it’s still important to make a proper introduction. That goes for every situation, whether you’re adding a new puppy to the family or your dog is begging to meet another pup at the park.

For those bringing home another dog, prepare your home for their arrival. The American Kennel Club suggests adding a crate, exercise pen or doggy gates as these are all helpful when you need to separate the dogs quickly. Always supervise their interactions to keep them both safe and happy. Do not force it. Respect and monitor how each dog is feeling.
