Mom Orders Cake for Daughter’s Third Birthday, Can’t cope with What Arrives
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

A mom preparing for her daughter’s third birthday could barely believe her eyes at what ended up written on the cake she had specially made by a local bakery.

Fortunately, Charlene Zatroch, from Miami, ended up seeing the funny side of it all, which was just as well given the circumstances.

These days, a good children’s birthday party does not come cheap. One survey of just over 400 parents conducted by the website What To Expect found moms and dads spend an average of $314 on their little one’s party celebrations.

Zatroch had pulled out all the stops for her daughter Odette’s birthday, starting with the cake, which she had asked for with very specific instructions.

“I specifically told them ‘third, like 3,R, D’ because I’ve heard of mistakes being made before,” Zatroch told Newsweek. Even so, somehow, something went wrong on the day itself.

“Since I’m the mom, I was so busy planning and setting up the party that my husband didn’t check the cake when he picked it up,” Zatroch said.

If he had stopped to look, he might have noticed the error that Zatroch later spotted and subsequently shared in a video posted to her TikTok under the handle @char_manderchar.

In the video, Zatroch gives viewers a closer look at the cake’s topping. “I’m so happy I ordered this cake and made sure to say happy ‘3th’ birthday Odette,” she said, sarcastically, zooming in on the glaring error written in the icing.

Somehow, the bakery had done the one thing Zatroch had specifically asked they not do. Thankfully, she was able to see the funny side in it all. “I wasn’t angry or upset, I actually found it to be hilarious and a story we’ll tell her when she’s older,” she said.

More importantly, given her daughter’s age, it was a mistake the birthday girl did not spot for herself. “My daughter can read but thankfully hasn’t learned that part of grammar,” Zatroch said.

If anything, the error proved to be a blessing in disguise and a memorable talking point from what was a happy occasion for all involved.

“The cake was gorgeous and everything I wanted and the typo added a laugh to it for everyone at the party,” Zatroch said. “A few people took pics and thought it was hilarious and shared their stories of it happening to them or someone they knew.”

In fact, Zatroch is thinking of turning the mistake into something of an annual tradition and a running joke between her and Odette.

“We actually thought it would be funny if all her future cakes were like this,” she said.
