A senior dog’s reaction to finally getting his very own yard has melted hearts on social media in a video that has quickly gone viral.
The heartwarming clip, shared on TikTok in May by johnnyrockets74, shows the pup, Chewie, from Arizona, observing his new yard from behind a window before his owners let him out to explore.
Once he made it out to his brand new yard, the pup couldn’t believe his eyes. He began running from side to side, rolling over, and giving his owners his best smiles while enjoying one of the happiest day of his life.
A caption shared with the clip explains: “Our senior apartment dog is about to see his new yard for the first time.” Followed by: “Our Chewie gets to love the rest of his life with [his] own yard.”
Nothing makes a dog happier than playing outdoors, that’s why a garden is a great present for any pup. However, before allowing your dog out in the yard, you must ensure it is safe for them.
British animal charity Blue Cross suggests using paved paths rather than gravel or stones to remove unnecessary chocking hazards. Having a high fence is also a great idea to avoid your dog escaping or jumping into a neighbor’s yard.
Because heatstroke is a danger for our canine friends, it is also important to always have shaded areas where they can hide when the sun is strong in the summer. For dogs who like to dig, digging pits are a good option to keep them entertained, and if your dog loves swimming, you could get them a paddling pool.
The video quickly went viral on TikTok, receiving over 386,900 views and 24,600 likes on the platform.
