Dolphins’ Tyreek Hill Calls Out Lack of Media Exposure After Jay Cutler Arrested

On Thursday, Oct. 17, former Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler was arrested for DUI and gun possession, as first reported by TMZ.

In total, Cuter was charged with four offenses: DUI (first offense), failure to exercise due care to avoid a collision, implied consent, and possession of a handgun while under the influence.

While this story has garnered media attention, a current NFL star called out the media for bias.

Recently, Miami Dolphins star wide receiver Tyreek Hill called out the media on X for their coverage, or lack thereof, of the Cutler arrest.

“I don’t see no media outlets talking about what just happened with former qb,” Hill said, referring to Cutler.

While there was media coverage of the situation, it’s safe to say that it was nothing compared to what Hill went through when he was detained by police on Sept. 8, before Miami’s season opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The incident garnered attention, particularly for the police officer’s use of excessive force against Hill, something the former Super Bowl champion was quick to point out.

“I will say I could have been better,” Hill said in a press conference after the incident. “I could have let down my window in that instant. But the thing about me is, I don’t want attention. I don’t want to be cameras-out, phones-on-you in that moment. But at the end of the day, I’m human. I’ve got to follow rules. I’ve got to do what everyone else would do.”

“Now, does that give them the right to literally beat the dog out of me? Absolutely not,” Hill continued. “But at the end of the day, I wish I could go back and do things a bit differently.”

“Gone. Gone. Gone. Gone. Gone. He’s gotta go, man,” Hill said of the officer who detained him. “In that instant right there, not only did he treat me bad, but he also treated my teammates with disrespect. He had some crazy words towards them and they didn’t even do nothing. Like, what did they do to you? They’re just walking on the sidewalk. He’s got to go, man.”

Another reason this has likely garnered more attention is Hill’s current status in the NFL. Not only is he currently one of the best wide receivers in the league, but he’s arguably the best of a generation.

Hill has been named to eight consecutive Pro Bowls and led the NFL in receiving yards and receiving touchdowns in 2023.

Meanwhile, Cutler hasn’t played since 2017 and, despite being named one of the 100 greatest Bears of all time, hasn’t made quite the same impact.
