Gen Z Women Decide To Mark Halloween by Creating Graves for Ex-Boyfriends

Three Gen Z women have well and truly buried their past relationships and left the internet in stitches by creating a Halloween graveyard dedicated to their ex-boyfriends.

Jazzlyn Sams (@getjazzyonemm), 26, joined forces with friends Serena Colvin, 27, and Hannah Roane, 28, for a spot of DIY therapy. The comical cemetery has since garnered 75,000 likes and 471,300 views on TikTok.

“Our graveyard idea was all my friend Serena’s. She wanted us to have a paint night where we made a graveyard with headstones featuring our exes’ names, followed by something funny or related to that relationship,” Sams, a content creator from Austin, Texas, told Newsweek. “It gave us a chance to get creative.”

The stunt showcased a towering skeleton beside a sign that read: “Here lies all the boys who did us wrong,” while gravestones were engraved with their exes’ names and playful fake causes of death. The footage captures the women digging into the ground, a symbolic gesture to bury the past.

The trio carefully carved gravestones out of foam board, then brought them to life with paint, stencils, and a layer of soil for added drama.

According to Sams, each headstone was designed as a lighthearted jab at a former flame, with inside jokes tied to their relationships.

For instance, “Phil choked on a hotdog” referenced an incident with Hannah’s ex, where she covered his car in ketchup after their breakup.

“Zach, the smallest man who ever lived,” was a nod to the Taylor Swift song, “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived,” which explores a relationship with a man who hurt her and wasted her time and which Sams used to soundtrack her video.

For those inspired by the viral clip and looking to create their own Halloween graveyard, website Entertaining Diva makes some simple suggestions.

Celebrators of spooky season can create tombstones, and add spooky elements like skeletons, lanterns, or fog machines, to transform a yard into a creepy cemetery.

TikTok users certainly seemed to dig the friends’ stunt.

“I’m gonna need more land for this trend …” joked Melissa.

Even Tinder got in on the fun, commenting: “I need to do this.”

“This seems so healing, I wanna do this,” Gabs chimed in.

Sams reflected on the experience, saying: “I 100 percent recommend doing a graveyard of exes with your friends! It was such a fun time for us to laugh, bond over the men who did us wrong, and reflect on how happy we are that they’re no longer in our lives.

“It was kind of therapeutic in a way. We never imagined the video would go viral, but we’re so happy that it did.”
