‘Sleepy’ Dog’s Ears Can’t Help but React to Start of His Favorite Sentence
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

A dog went from close to deep sleep to up and ready to play after his owner said the magic words.

Koda the Pitbull lives with his owner, and as she writes on his TikTok account, @kodacreamsoda: “It’s Koda’s world, you’re all just living in it.”

TikTok users have now fallen in love with the pup after a recent video of Koda’s nap getting interrupted with the promise of a walk went viral, having racked up over one million views in two days, since being shared on October 20.

In the clip, Koda lies across his owner’s lap, his eyes closing, looking as relaxed as a dog can be. But his ear quickly perks up even as the rest of his body stays close to dreaming.

“So sleepy,” his owner says in the video. “Not ready to do anything, not ready to get up. Until I ask … would you like to go …” As she speaks, Koda’s ear rises from his head, clearly listening out for the ending of that sentence—walk.

“Ooh, that ear,” she laughs in the video.

At this point, Koda’s ear has already flopped down to its original position, but after laughing, his owner tries again: “Would you like to …”

And once again the ear raises itself, and this time Koda can’t settle back down. As his owner giggles, he jumps up, now fully awake and excited for the inevitable walk, and jams his head into the camera.

His owner wrote across the video: “The way his ear was already waiting for that word ‘walk’,” along with a series of laughing emoji.

And TikTok users responded in a big way, liking the video over 237,000 times, as one of hundreds of commenters wrote: “He said ‘I’m listening’.”

“My spider sense is tingling,” another joked, as one insisted: “I swear dogs understand words they just pretend like they don’t when it’s inconvenient for them.”

And as one put it: “The definition of ‘I’m all ears’.”

Koda’s TikTok account is full of videos of the much-loved dog taking naps, performing neighborhood watches from the window, climbing on his owner for attention—and of course, going on his beloved walks.

For dogs, going on a walk has plenty of benefits, including mental stimulation and physical exercise to help them keep fit, according to the American Kennel Club (AKC).

Owners can help their dogs have the best walk possible by not rushing bathroom breaks, as it’s part of how dogs communicate with other dogs in the neighborhood, and allowing them to walk at their own pace, sniff and explore rather than just rushing straight through the route, the AKC writes.
