A plane passenger went viral after making an unfortunate realization before they boarded their 11-hour flight.
Music, movies, and podcasts are common ways for flight passengers to stay entertained on long journeys, and one Reddit user was horrified to find out that they might not be able to do that because of a favor they paid to their father.
Reddit user u/DieReci1210 shared a photo on the social media platform of a black earbud case with nothing inside, revealing that they would now have to go 11 hours without their wireless earbuds because they lent them to their dad.
“I let my dad use my earbuds last night and I didn’t check before an 11 hour flight,” they wrote in the post.
Earbuds are popular for passengers on long-haul flights who wish to watch shows and movies and listen to music with their own high-quality earphones rather than those often given out for free for in-flight entertainment.
Qantas’ list of tips for surviving a long flight includes bringing noise-canceling earphones. Other tips the airline has shared include bringing a pillow and blanket, powering up devices, and bringing backup entertainment if you are not satisfied with what is available onboard.

The Reddit post went viral after it was first shared on October 12. It has received over 26,000 upvotes and hundreds of comments.
Some Redditors assured the poster that all hope was not lost. They could simply grab another pair at the airport before boarding.
“I’d hate it but no way I board that plane without buying another cheap set of earbuds. I’ll take the L (loss),” u/brokenmessiah commented.
Some commenters said they could, unfortunately, relate to the poster’s plight.
“My earbuds dropped out of my pocket, skipped down the airport drop off, and ran over by another car, getting out of an Uber to catch a flight. I was just glad they were cheap ones. I feel your pain. Thank God that my Switch has at least had an earphone port that I could use the flight’s earbuds to block out noise,” u/Disabled_Dug wrote.
“I remember putting up my ear phones for charge the day before my flight just for my grandmother to turn of the power switch to the charger because she thought it was full,” u/Alternative-Code-673 said.
