The umpires for the World Series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees were announced Thursday, including a historic first in Game 1.
Carlos Torres, who will call balls and strikes Friday at Dodger Stadium, is the first Venezuelan umpire to get a World Series assignment, according to El Extrabase.

Crew chief Mark Carlson will work his third career World Series, including his first as the crew chief of the Fall Classic. He was also part of the 2015 and 2020 World Series crews. Carlson has more than 25 years of experience as a major league umpire.
Carlson’s World Series crew includes Torres, Doug Eddings, Chad Fairchild, Andy Fletcher, Mark Ripperger, and Todd Tichenor, who was a crew chief during the regular season.

It is the second career Fall Classic for Eddings (previous: 2019), Fairchild (previous: 2018) and Tichenor (previous: 2020); and the first for Fletcher, Ripperger and Torres.
Tichenor will serve as the crew chief in Game 2 while Carlson is off the field. One of the seven umpires will be off the field in each game.

Cory Blaser and James Hoye, a regular season crew chief, have been assigned to replay duties throughout the Fall Classic. All nine Major League umpires assigned to the World Series, including Blaser and Hoye, worked the Division Series round of the 2024 Postseason.
After Torres in Game 1, the home plate umpires will be Fletcher in Game 2, Carlson in Game 3, Eddings in Game 4, Ripperger in Game 5 (if necessary), Fairchild in Game 6 (if necessary), and Tichenor in Game 7 (if necessary).
The Dodgers host Games 1 and 2, and Games 6 and 7 if needed, in the best-of-seven series. The Yankees host Games 3, 4 and 5.
