Donald Trump Gets Good News From Home State Newspaper

Donald Trump has been endorsed in the 2024 election by the New York Post, a conservative tabloid based in the former president’s home state.

The Post‘s front page on Friday featured the headline “Back to the Future” alongside a photo of Trump. In an article explaining their endorsement, The Post‘s editorial board said the former president is the “clear choice for a better future.”

Trump has cited The Post as his “favorite” newspaper, although the Rupert Murdoch-owned publication has been critical of the Republican in recent years. In December 2020, the paper ran a front page urging Trump to “stop the insanity” and accept that he lost the previous month’s election to Joe Biden.

The publication also blamed Trump for the Republican Party‘s underwhelming 2022 midterm performance. The GOP failed to win control of the Senate and only managed a narrow majority in the House after Trump’s MAGA and election-denying candidates lost their races across the country.

The Post’s editorial board is now backing Trump over Democratic nominee Kamala Harris in the 2024 election while saying the former president could repeat the success of his first term in office on issues such as the economy and immigration.

Newsweek has contacted Trump’s and Harris’ offices via email for comment.

“To borrow from Ronald Reagan’s famous ‘Are you better off now than you were four years ago?’: Voters should ask themselves if they were better off under Trump or Joe Biden and Kamala Harris,” the editorial board wrote.

“His opponents focus on how Trump’s administration was marked by a relentless soap opera of high drama and chaos—much of which they fueled.

“And yes, many find him offensive—and we say fair enough: He can be ridiculously hyperbolic.

“But before COVID wreaked havoc across the globe, Trump’s first-term results were paychecks that grew markedly faster than inflation, the lowest unemployment in 50 years, a secure border and peace overseas.”

The board also dismissed concerns about Trump’s age and cognitive ability hindering his ability to run for a second term. They said the former president “exhibits the same strength and vigor as he did in 2016, despite the unprecedented and disgraceful weaponization of the justice system against him, two assassination attempts and the all-too-familiar constant barrage of hysterical media attacks on him.”

Trump, 78, is the oldest presidential nominee in U.S. history. If the Republican wins November’s election, he could overtake Biden as the oldest-ever sitting U.S. president during his second term.

“The burden is heavy on our shoulders this November,” The Post‘s editorial board added. “But Trump and Harris want to take us down very different roads—making the choice stark and simple, but vital. Donald Trump is the right choice.”

The Post was previously warming more to Trump’s rival, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who challenged the former president in the 2024 GOP primary.

The day after the 2022 midterm elections, The Post featured DeSantis on its front page following his resounding reelection victory with the headline “DeFUTURE.”

The next day, the newspaper ran a front page that depicted Trump as Humpty Dumpty atop a wall, headlined “Trumpty Dumpty.” An editorial also criticized the influence of “Toxic Trump,” labeling him the “most profound vote-repellent in modern American history.”

Harris is anticipated to win New York in November, a Democratic stronghold that has not voted for a Republican presidential candidate since 1984.

The vice president has an average polling lead over Trump in New York of nearly 15 points, according to forecasting website 538.

The forecast model from Decision Desk HQ/The Hill gives Harris a 99 percent chance of winning New York on November 5.
