Fan-Favorite AEW Superstar Pulled From Event Due To Injury

While a majority of US professional wrestling fans focus on WWE and AEW, professional wrestling is an international phenomenon, with different regions developing their own iconic styles.

This includes Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL). Originally founded as Empresa Mexicana de Lucha Libre in 1933, CMLL is the oldest professional wrestling promotion still in existence.

Currently, CMLL is in a working relationship with AEW, allowing stars from both companies to work at the other.

Unfortunately, it looks like a fan-favorite AEW superstar has been injured in this exchange.

Today, CMLL announced that former AEW TBS Champion Willow Nightingale we be unable to participate in two of their events this weekend, Arena Coliseo Saturday and Arena Mexico Family Sunday, because she had suffered a concussion.

“We regret to inform our loyal fans that AEW superstar, Willow Nightingale, will not be able to participate in Sabado de Arena Coliseo and Domingo Familiar in Arena Mexico as planned due to a concussion suffered during her participation in the Women’s Grand Prix,” CMLL said in a statement on X.

“In line with the concussion protocols established for both CMLL and AEW, Willow must abstain from both dates to ensure her well-being and full recovery.”

Instead, Nightingale has been replaced by CMLL World Champion Zeuxis for tonight’s match at Arena Coliseo and CMLL Women’s Universal Champion 2024 Persephone tomorrow at Arena Mexico.

“We thank all our fans for their understanding and we assure you that these two champions will provide the show and quality that characterizes our wrestling,” the statement continued. “See you at Arena Coliseo and Arena Mexico to enjoy the best wrestling in the world!”

Nightingale confirmed the information by sharing the original post on her own page.

This comes after Nightingale appeared in CMLL’s Viernes Espectacular event yesterday where she participated in 2024 CMLL Women’s International Grand Prix as a member of Team World.

After debuting on the independent circuit in 2015, Nightingale made her AEW and Ring of Honor (ROH) debut in 2021. She quickly made a name for herself, going on to defeat Julia Hart for the AEW TBS Championship on April 21, 2024.

Unfortunately, her reign would come to a swift end when Mercedes Moné defeated her on May 26, meaning she only held the title for 35 days.

Outside of AEW, Nightingale would find championship success in multiple promotions, including New Japan Pro Wrestling, World Wonder Ring Stardom, and CMLL.
