A cat’s loyal decision to stay up all night with her owner during a late-night study session has captured the hearts of the internet.
In a video posted by Amina Vatres (@aminavatres) on TikTok, her orange and white tabby struggles to stay awake as Amina prepares for an exam.
The video, which has earned 1.2 million likes and 4.1 million views, captures the heartwarming scene.
“Pulling an all-nighter for my exam in the morning, but why is my cat acting like she has to do this too,” Amina, a college student, wrote as the text overlaying the video. She captioned it” “My emotional support animal.”
Throughout the clip, the cat, struggling to keep her eyes open, sits dutifully by Amina’s side as she tackles her organic chemistry prep.
It seems the feline was just as determined to make it through the all-nighter as her human was.
Cats often display this kind of companionship and closeness, a behavior commonly linked to their need to show affection by simply being present with their favorite people.
According to pet experts, cats may follow their owners everywhere as a sign of loyalty and love—a kind of silent support system that reflects their bond.
In fact, this “mirroring” behavior is thought to be a way for cats to share in the experiences of their loved ones, showing that they’re engaged with their humans’ emotions and routines.

TikTok users flocked to the comments to celebrate the loyal kitty’s antics, sharing their own stories of pets who helped them through late-night study sessions.
“It’s actually called mirroring,” explained one viewer. “They mimic their owners because that’s how they feel they best demonstrate their love and respect for you.”
Another viewer related so deeply to the story that they had to make it official. “I gave my cat a fake master’s degree because she was there for every Zoom class, homework night, and all-nighter,” they joked.
Even dog owners joined in on the conversation, sharing similar moments of late-night loyalty. “Omg my dog did this when I was in grad school!!” commented one user. “My husband would be like, ‘k bye, going to bed.’ But our dog would stay up squinting at me.”
