The Menendez brothers’ shocking story of murder, wealth and twisted family secrets is about to grip viewers as Netflix unleashes the next chapter of its Monsters series.
Netflix recently dropped the trailer for Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, and it begins with a suggestion of a buried family secret.
The series features an impressive cast, with Javier Bardem and Chloë Sevigny starring as parents Jose and Kitty Menendez, while newcomers Nicholas Alexander Chavez and Cooper Koch take on the roles of Lyle and Erik Menendez.
“I need to know what’s going on with you and the boys,” Sevigny says, portraying Kitty Menendez in the trailer. “I don’t want there to be any more lies between us. I won’t tell anyone.”

Lyle, left, and Erik Menendez sit in Beverly Hills Municipal Court where their attorneys delayed making pleas on behalf of the brothers who are suspected in the murders of their millionaire parents, Jose and Mary Louise “Kitty” Menendez, in Beverly Hills, Calif., last Aug., March 12, 1990. The arraignment for the brothers has been scheduled for March 26.

Created by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan, this series delves into the infamous 1989 case of the Menendez brothers, who shocked the nation when they brutally murdered their parents in their Beverly Hills home
Newsweek reached out to Murphy and Brennan to inquire why they selected the notorious Menendez brothers’ case for their second installment, but they have not yet responded.
Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story will explore the brothers’ complex relationship and the events leading up to the murders.
Lyle and Erik Menendez, who were convicted of killing their parents, claimed they were driven to commit the crime after enduring years of abuse. However, prosecutors argued their motive was financial gain.
“It’s just us now. We’re on our own,” one brother whispers in the chilling Netflix trailer, as they embrace, blood dripping down one brother’s cheek.
Fans of true crime and the Monsters series can expect another gripping narrative as Murphy and Brennan once again bring a haunting real-life story to the screen.
Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story is set to premiere on September 19 and faces high expectations.
The new series follows the overwhelming success of the first installment, DAHMER — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, which premiered in 2022.
Documenting the chilling crimes of serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, the series broke records, reaching 1 billion viewing hours within its first 60 days. This achievement placed DAHMER among Netflix’s elite, alongside Stranger Things and Squid Game.

Evan Peters poses in the press room with the award for best performance by an actor in a limited series, anthology series, or a motion picture made for television for “Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” at the 80th annual Golden Globe Awards at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2023, in Beverly Hills, Calif.

Evan Peters, who portrayed Dahmer, won a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Mini-Series, while Niecy Nash, who played Glenda Cleveland, earned a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series.
With the momentum from DAHMER, Netflix quickly greenlit two additional installments of Monsters, each focusing on notorious figures whose crimes left a lasting impact on society.
