Golden State Warriors All-NBA point guard Stephen Curry is slated to ink a one-year $62.6 million contract extension with the only NBA franchise he’s ever known, his agent his agent Jeff Austin of Octagon informs Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
The deal will keep the 6-foot-3 superstar under contract with Golden State through the 2026-27 NBA season, when he’ll turn 39.
The 10-time All-Star is signing this new agreement on the heels of a superlative debut performance for Team USA over the summer at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Following a slow start with the national team (coached by the Warriors’ Steve Kerr), Curry finally went off during the club’s last two bouts, scoring a combined 60 points on 20-of-33 shooting from the field, while nailing 17-of-26 triple attempts.
Curry essentially saved the Americans from a semifinal upset against Nikola Jokic’s Team Serbia. The Serbians had led by 17 points in their matchup’s second quarter, before a Curry-mounted rally sparked a second half comeback. When the dust had settled, Curry scored 36 points, one shy of Carmelo Anthony’s all-time Olympic game record, while shooting 12-of-19 from the field (9-of-14 from beyond the arc) and 3-of-3 from the foul line. Curry also grabbed eight rebounds, two dimes and one steal. The U.S. won, 95-91, and advanced to the gold medal game.
In that contest against Team France, Curry led the Americans once again, scoring 24 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the field (8-of-13 from long range), five assists, two steals and one rebound. The French squad trailed by as little as three points within the game’s final three minutes in regulation, before Curry’s sharpshooting shut the door. The U.S. eventually won by double digits, 98-87.

With the fresh contract, Curry is going to earn more than $500 million just on the hardwood for the duration of his career, joining only Team USA teammates LeBron James and Kevin Durant in achieving that lucrative feat, per Bobby Marks of ESPN. Marks adds that the one-year extension is the longest deal Golden State team president Mike Dunleavy Jr. can tender Curry’s way, due the current Collective Bargaining Agreement’s Over-38 Rule.
