The 2024 PGA Tour season has come to an end, and to no one’s surprise, the No. 1 player in the world has come out on top in the final event. Scottie Scheffler came away with the 2024 FedEx champion on Sunday.

This marks Scheffler’s seventh Tour Championship this season, the most in a season since Tiger Woods did so in 2007. Scheffler is the only player to win The Players, The Masters, and the Tour Championship in the same season. Scheffler also came away with a gold medal in the 2024 Paris Olympics, the first of his career.

Only Scheffler, Woods, and Vijay Singh have won seven-plus tournaments in the same campaign since 1983. Scheffler’s scoring average of the 68 over the course of the season marked the lowest in Tour history.

It’s been a fairytale type of season, and there is likely more to come for the 28-year-old.

As for this tournament, things started to go sideways for Schefler coming into Sunday’s finale. He took a five-shot lead into the finale, and on the sixth hole, he nearly roped a drive out of bounds. The ball was next to a tree, and Scheffler made a bogey from there.

Another bogey followed on the par-4 eighth hole when he shanked a bunker shot sideways and backward from where he was aiming. The No. 6 player in the world. Collin Morikawa birdied that same hole to cut the lead to two as everybody watching leaned forward in anticipation.

“I was a bit frustrated. I had a pretty simple up and down there,” Scheffler said of the shank. “Outside of the ball being on the side slope, it’s pretty basic. … It definitely happened at the wrong time, [but] from there on out, I did some pretty nice stuff.”

Scheffler ended the day the only way he knew how. He finished with three consecutive birdies to wrap up the day. Overall, Scheffler was 4-under 67 to finish at 30 under for the tournament and claim his first Fed Ex Cup trophy. The win, his seventh this season, brings his season-long total money earned to $62,228,357.

“I’m just proud of the work that we put in,” Scheffler said of his season. “It’s hard to put into words what this year has been like for me. It’s been pretty emotional. There’s been a lot of stuff that’s gone on outside of golf. It’s been a bit of a wild year.”
