Doug Emhoff and his ex-wife Kerstin Emhoff have reacted to photographs taken by their children, Cole and Ella, at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago last month.
On X, formerly Twitter, second gentleman Doug Emhoff shared a video captioned “DNC 2024, as seen by temporary campaign photographers Cole and Ella Emhoff.” In the video, an off-camera person asks Kamala Harris’ stepchildren if they are going to the DNC, before handing them disposable cameras and asking them to take “cool photos” of the event.
The video then shows a series of images taken by Cole and Ella, captioned “DNC 2024: Through their eyes.”

The photos taken by Cole and Ella at the DNC featured many shots of both Kamala Harris’ and Tim Walz’s families.
Emhoff’s first wife Kerstin then reposted the X video with the caption: “Family fun at DNC.”
Many of Kerstin and Doug’s social media followers praised their posts.
“Fabulous!! Those two may have found new jobs!!” one social media user commented under Doug’s post.
“You three rents raised some great kids…just lovely,” wrote another user underneath Kerstin’s post.
The Emhoff’s at the DNC
One of the core themes emphasized throughout the DNC was family.
Kerstin, Cole and Ella all played significant roles in the DNC. Ahead of Doug Emhoff’s speech at the convention, a film titled This is my Dad, Doug, played. The film told the story of Doug Emhoff and Kamala Harris’ first meeting and chartered the course of their relationship up to the present day. It was narrated by Cole and produced by Kerstin and Ventureland, the film company of which she is CEO.
Kerstin was married to Doug Emhoff from 1992 to 2008. Since Kamala Harris took on the presidential nomination, Kerstin has vocally praised her and their blended family.
In a previous statement to CNN, Kerstin described Harris as “Loving, nurturing, fiercely protective, and always present.” She added, “I love our blended family and am grateful to have her in it.
After the film, Cole, who usually keeps a low profile, then introduced his father on stage.
Ella, who is signed with IMG Models, also spoke at the DNC. On the final day she appeared onstage alongside Harris’s lawyer niece Meena Harris and her goddaughter Helena Hudlin. In her speech, Ella praised her “Momola,” Kamala Harris, for supporting her when she was a teenager.
“Like a lot of young people, I didn’t always understand what I was feeling, but no matter what, Kamala was there for me. She was patient, caring and always took me seriously. She’s never stopped listening to me and she’s not going to stop listening to all of us.”
Newsweek has emailed the Harris campaign and representatives of Kerstin Emhoff for further comment.
