Four sources with knowledge of the conflict said that FBI deputy director Dan Bongino had taken a day off work on Friday following a clash at the White House between Attorney General Pam Bondi and him over the handling of the Jeffrey Epstein documents.
What’s at stake: The controversy erupted on Wednesday after the administration retracted its previous claims that Epstein had a “client list” of celebrities and was murdered in his New York City jail cell in 2019.
Bongino did not come to work on Friday, which led some insiders believe that he quit. Officials in the administration say that he is still working, despite the ongoing tensions over the Epstein case.
Zoom in: The administration released a video of Epstein outside his cell, claiming it proved that no one entered the room prior to Epstein killing himself.
