Ken Paxton, Texas Attorney General, has opened an investigation against an organization named Powered by People.
Power by the People, also known as Beto O’Rourke’s radical organization.
According to the press release, “the investigation is for unlawful activity including possibly operating an illegal financial scheme to bribe runaway Democrats that fled Texas in order to break quorum.”
In the press release, it is also stated that “According public reports, Powered by People was one of the leading groups funding the Texas House Democrat Members who abandoned Texans, and vacated offices.” Powered by people may have broken bribery laws when it provided these liberal legislators with funds to leave the state.
Attorney General Ken Paxton has launched an investigation against Beto O’Rourke’s radical group, Powered by People. The investigation is aimed at uncovering illegal activity including the operation of a financial influence scheme that could be used to bribe Democrats who have fled Texas in order to break quorum.
Attorney General Paxton said, “Any Democrat Coward who breaks the law by accepting a Beto Blessing will be held responsible.” “Texas can’t be bought. I am looking forward to reviewing in detail all the documents and communications that have been obtained during this investigation. “These jet-setting runaways already lost the public’s trust by leaving our state. Texans deserve information on whether they were paid illegal bribes for it.”
According to reports in the public domain, Powered by People was one of the main groups that financed the Texas House Democrat Members who left Texans behind and vacated offices. Powered by People could have broken bribery laws when it provided the money to these liberal legislators in order for them to leave the state. Powered by People, along with the runaway Democrats, may also have violated other Texas laws. These include, but are not limited to those that govern campaign and officeholder expenditures and contributions, coercion and abuse of an office, as well as those that regulate coercion and expenditures for public servants.
In the course of his investigation, Attorney-General Paxton issued a Request for Examine. This demanded documents and communications regarding any potentially illegal activity by the group, including its participation in the Democrats’ plan to break the quorum.
Attorney General Paxton announced he would take aggressive legal actions against Democrats who fail to appear before the House of Representatives by Friday, the deadline set by Speaker.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott has filed a lawsuit at the Texas Supreme Court in order to begin the process of vacating the seats of those that fled.
Tuesday night Abbott filed a suit in the Texas Supreme Court, beginning the process of vacating seats from legislators who had fled and refused their constitutional duties.
In a Tuesday post, Governor Abbott (R), wrote: “Today I began emergency action to remove from office derelict Democrat Texas House Members who refuse to attend the special session.” The Governor filed the lawsuit directly with the Texas Supreme Court in order to “clarify the authority that I have to bring this lawsuit” (for the removal of legislators).
Abbott sent a letter to Texas Supreme Court regarding his decision to file directly before the top court of the state, bypassing district and appellate courts. The governor’s actions were based on Section 22 of Texas Constitution as well as court precedent.
The Supreme Court asked the respondent Chairman Gene Wu to provide a response by Friday, August 8 at 5 pm. The case number for Emergency Petition for Writ of Quo Warranto, is 25-0674.
