Pacheco is set to miss 6-8 weeks due to a fractured fibula. He will have surgery this week to repair it and plans to return this season. In the meantime, the Chiefs are looking to bring back their former running back, Hunt.
Hunt last played in the NFL last season with the Cleveland Browns. He was with Cleveland from 2019-23. No one took a chance on Hunt this offseason, and he remains a free agent.

The Chiefs drafted the 29-year-old in the third round of the 2017 NFL draft with the No. 86 overall pick. Hunt was dynamic for the Chiefs right out of the gate, being named to a Pro Bowl, and was the NFL rushing yards leader in his rookie season.
As a Chief, Hunt tallied 453 rush attempts for 2,151 yards, 15 rushing touchdowns, and averaged 4.7 yards per carry in 27 games from 2017-18.
Towards the end of the 2018 season, Hunt was released by the Chiefs after a videotape surfaced of Hunt pushing a woman to the ground and then kicking her. The woman who appeared on the videotape stopped cooperating with authorities and declined to proceed with criminal charges. However, the damage was done, and he was no longer with Kansas City.
The following season, the Cleveland Browns signed Hunt. However, due to the pending investigation from the NFL into the assault allegations against him, Hunt was placed on the Commissioner’s Exempt list after signing his contract.
A month after signing the contract, the NFL announced that Hunt had been suspended without pay for the first eight games of the 2019 season for violating the league’s personal conduct policy.
Hunt served as the primary backup to All-Pro running back Nick Chubb in the next five seasons. In Cleveland, he tallied 577 rush attempts for 2,285 yards, 25 touchdowns, and averaged 4.0 yards per carry.
A second distinct in Kansas City is likely in the cards for the Chiefs after losing Pacheco for a significant amount of time. If the Chiefs decide not to go with Hunt, all eyes will be on Carson Steele, who they signed after going undrafted in this year’s draft, and Samaje Perine, who they signed to a one-year, $1.5 million contract in late August.
