When it comes to menstruation, it’s no secret that men have some learning to do.
A video on TikTok, however, has put a hilarious spin on this. A clip posted by Anna (@annabasile) has gone viral after revealing what her boyfriend brought home when she sent him to buy “pads with wings.” The video has received 1.4 million likes since it was posted on September 27.
In the video, Anna’s boyfriend’s interpretation is revealed in its full glory: He brought home a box of panty liners and a container of chicken wings.
“She said pads with wings,” Anna’s boyfriend said in the video. “I got wings. These are wings…They’re buffalo.”
As he spoke, Anna erupted into laughter—and so did viewers in the comments. Many sympathized with the honest mistake, even sharing their own stories of miscommunications about menstruation.
“That man’s a keeper, he might be a little confused but…he did his best and didn’t even question this weird combination,” @serotoninplease216 wrote.
“When I asked my boyfriend to get me super tampons and he told me he didn’t see the brand ‘super’ anywhere in the store,” @kaitlynrosedec wrote.
Others said Anna got an even sweeter deal than her original request. Wouldn’t she also want something to snack on during her period?
“Can’t be mad at that, because you know you want those wings too,” @moodymoon_lee wrote.
“But bro actually understood the assignment,” @merissawithan_e wrote. “What I would do for some chicken wings when on my period.”
“Naw girl, you had to know he wasn’t going to get that one right. But honestly what he came back with is completely acceptable—maybe even better,” @steph054640 wrote.
Ultimately, viewers in the comments found that Anna’s boyfriend really did do his best: “This isn’t even incompetence,” @xo.star.kitten wrote. “He genuinely tried.”

Men’s knowledge of menstruation
A 2021 study by the women’s health care company Intima surveyed around 1,000 adult men in the U.S., finding significant gaps in their understanding of menstruation.
The survey found that 41 percent of respondents could accurately explain menstruation, while 65 percent were unfamiliar with menstrual cups or how they are used. Additionally, 33 percent of men thought a box of 36 tampons would cost between $13 and $20.
Despite these knowledge gaps, the study found that most men agreed on the importance of educating boys about the menstrual cycle, with much of this information coming from family members and loved ones. It seems that Anna’s boyfriend has loved ones who are keen to educate him through laughter.
In the comments, Anna wrote that while her boyfriend missed the original instructions, he did get flowers for her, her mother and her sister while he was out.
“He’s a king,” she wrote.
