Donald Trump’s McDonald’s Shift Went Down Best With Gen Z

The majority of Gen Zs believe Donald Trump‘s claims that the Vice President has lied about working there in the past, a new poll shows.

Trump has repeatedly said that he does not believe Kamala Harris, who has said she briefly worked for the fast-food chain at a branch in Alameda, California, during a summer between college semesters in the early 1980s.

Some 38 percent of Gen Zs (people born between 1997 and 2012) said they think “Donald Trump is correct in saying Kamala Harris has never worked at McDonald’s,” according to polling carried out on behalf of Newsweek, by market research company Talker Research.

Comparatively, 33 percent said they believe “Kamala Harris has worked at McDonald’s,” while 28 percent said they are “not sure.”

The survey questioned 514 people between October 22 and October 23. Newsweek has contacted Talker Research to ask for its margin of error.

However, when looking at the polling in general, across all age groups, the majority (38 percent) said they believe Harris has worked at McDonald’s, with 32 percent saying they believe she did not.

Among millennials (people born between 1981 and 1996), 36 percent said they believe Harris, 33 percent said they believe Trump and 32 percent said they are not sure.

The majority (38 percent) of Gen X (people born between 1965 and 1980) also said they believe Harris while 29 percent said they believe Trump and 32 percent said they are not sure.

Some 43 percent of Baby Boomers (people born between 1946 and 1964) said they believe Harris, which is more than the 32 percent who said they believe Trump and the 24 percent who said they are not sure.

Likewise, most folks in the Silent Generation (people born between 1925 and 1945) said they believe Harris (57 percent) while 29 percent said they believe Trump and 14 percent said they are not sure.

It comes after Trump did a shift at a McDonald’s branch in Feasterville-Trevose in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, last weekend, a stint that was most popular with Gen Z, the same polling shows.

Derek Giacomantonio, the owner of the McDonald’s franchise, welcomed Trump’s request to visit. “It is a fundamental value of my organization that we proudly open our doors to everyone who visits the Feasterville community,” he said in a statement.

Harris, the Democratic nominee, has spoken during her campaign about working at a McDonald’s restaurant at college to highlight that she can relate directly to the life experiences of working- and middle-class Americans.

Harris campaign spokesman Ian Sams previously told the New York Times, “When Trump feels desperate, all he knows how to do is lie. He can’t understand what it’s like to have a summer job because he was handed millions on a silver platter, only to blow it.”

Newsweek has contacted the teams for Harris and Trump, via email, for comment. It has also contacted McDonald’s, via email, for comment.
