Texans First-Round Pick Out for Season

Houston Texans starting guard Kenyon Green, a first-round pick in the 2022 draft, will reportedly be out for the season after dislocating his left shoulder in last night’s match-up with the New York Jets.

Green injured his shoulder in the first half and quickly headed to the blue medical tent for evaluation. The former first-round draft pick from Texas A&M, who was a highly touted recruit from Atascocita High School, then went to the locker room for further medical treatment.

He was replaced in the lineup by backup Kendrick Green, who had almost taken his place earlier in the week as the Texans considered making a change, according to league sources.

The Texans lost to the Jets in a surprise 21-13 upset, after being widely favored to win.
However, Houston was reeling after losing star wide receiver Stefon Diggs to a season-ending torn ACL and, with Diggs out and Nico Collins still on injured reserve, the team found itself on the embarrassing end of a loss.

Early in the game, more complications arose for the Texans. Star defensive end Will Anderson Jr. briefly left the team’s matchup against the New York Jets with a reported lower-body injury. After being checked out in the blue tent, he was cleared to play and returned to the field.

However, the team’s troubles did not end there. Quarterback C.J. Stroud was sacked by defensive end Solomon Thomas on a 3rd and 10 play. This marked the fourth time Stroud was sacked at that point, and it seemed that this particular sack resulted in a leg injury.

Stroud remained down for a while before attempting to get up and walk off the field. He had difficulty leaving the field and had to crouch down in pain again. Eventually, he managed to exit the field, raising immediate concern for the second-year quarterback. However, he was able to return to the game and knelt before halftime.

The second-year quarterback fumbled in the first quarter while in scoring position, missed several throws he typically makes—including one that should have resulted in an easy touchdown late in the game—and was sacked a staggering eight times. Along with the eight sacks, Stroud faced pressure on 46.7% of his pass attempts.

Before joining the NFL, Green earned All-American honors at Texas A&M University and was recognized as one of the top offensive linemen in the Southeastern Conference by being selected to the All-SEC Team. With the Texans apparently beginning to crack, losing Green for the entire season is something Houston doesn’t need.
