Amy Slaton, one of the titular stars of TLC’s 1000-Lb Sisters, shocked fans when she was arrested on drug charges outside the Tennessee Safari Park on Monday, September 2. Photographs obtained by TMZ reveal more details about Slaton’s dramatic exit from the zoo – including the fact that she had to be carried out on a stretcher.

Slaton, 36, was allegedly bitten by a camel while driving through the zoo, where animals roam freely and customers can pay to feed them. She reportedly had a deep cut on her arm and was using a shirt as a tourniquet before EMTs came to assist her.

But zoo owner Jon Conley claims something is suspicious about Slaton’s story. Conley told TMZ that “there is no way” she was bitten by one of their camels. He told the outlet that her injury did not look like a camel bite, “because the skin is fileted open and there’s no bruised tissue.” Per the Tennessee Safari Park’s officials, there are no recorded instances of camels biting zoo visitors, and there was no surveillance video of Slaton sustaining the injury.

It was upon exiting the zoo that authorities noticed a a “suspicious odor” coming from the vehicle. Marijuana and psychedelic mushrooms were discovered in the car, and because her two children had been in the car, Slaton was arrested for “illegal possession of Schedule I, illegal possession of Schedule VI, and two counts of child endangerment,” according to the outlet.

Fans of the Slaton sisters had differing reactions on X, where one fan wrote “If you were smoking weed with your kids in your car I’m GLAD that camel bit you,” and another wrote, “FREE MY SISTER, AMY #JUSTICEFORAMY.”

Slaton shares two sons with her ex Michael Halterman: 2-year-old Glenn, whose birthday she celebrated in July 2024, and 4-year-old Gage. She was at the zoo with companion Brian Scott Lovvorn.
