Baffled Puppy Owner Finally Figures Out Why Their Floor Is Always Flooded
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Five-year-old Blue Merle Border Collie Molly lives in England with her owner and naturally, is the boss of the house.

She even has her dedicated TikTok account, @mollymoosedog, filled with clips of the pooch out on walks, exploring the beach, or dozing on the sofa.

But one video, in particular, has shot Molly to viral fame, as it showed the moment her owner figured out what was flooding her kitchen.

“I’d only had her maybe a week and I couldn’t for the life of me figure out why my floor in the kitchen was always wet in front of the fridge,” her owner, who asked for her name not to be used, told Newsweek. She even called for help to check whether there was an issue with the refrigerator.

The clip, taken when Molly was a 15-week-old puppy, was shared to TikTok on August 31, and it boasts over 2.2 million views and almost 180,000 likes.

It shows the gorgeous collie walking over to her water bowl, and taking in some water. But rather than drinking it, she held it in her mouth, spat it out on the floor, and began spreading it around with her paws.

Not quite finished, Molly followed the same steps again, before finally finishing up and running onto the sofa, where she flopped down, as her owner noted sarcastically: “Oh yeah, just dry yourself off on the couch now. Finished having fun, yeah?”

She wrote in a comment that it “took me a week to work out why the floor was wet because she’d do this when I wasn’t looking.”

And in a caption, the owner joked: “Everyone wants a Border Collie puppy until…”

TikTok users loved the clip, with thousands commenting, including one who joked: “[She] is just mopping where someone missed a spot.”

“[She’s] so good at tap dancing,” another joked, as a third agreed: “[She’s] simply cleaning, why would you blame [her].”

One suggested Molly could see her reflection in the water, and “misplaced herding instincts to chase a reflection.” Her owner confirmed she had the same thought and catching the behavior “put things in place to help best mentally stimulate her.”

Her owner, who works as a learning support assistant in a special needs school, told Newsweek she spent a lot of time going for walks and scent training Molly. She “even learned how to open the washing machine and take out the clothes for me,” the owner said.

Border collies like Molly have long been used as working dogs on farms, and still have the herding instinct that helps them herd sheep, both at work and in competitions.

Noted by the American Kennel Club (AKC) as an intelligent workaholic, border collies are also popular family pets, though they need plenty of mental and physical stimulation to tire them out, only relaxing once the working day is done.

“Molly and I became very close through COVID,” her owner said. “Living on my own, I was able to give her the time she needed to get used to city life and train up. She’s my best friend essentially.”

Now friendly and confident, Molly, who also has an Instagram account, @MichievousMolly1, didn’t always have an easy life.

Before being rescued at around 13 weeks old, she had been kept “in a small barn on her own,” and was “so scared of men in high visibility jackets and brooms.”

Now though, “she is the sassiest character you’d meet, using her eyebrows to wordessly communicate exactly how she feels on subjects.”
