Chrissy Teigen Urges ‘Real Housewives’ Stars to Stop Talking Money—’Icky’

Chrissy Teigen has urged stars of the Real Housewives franchise to stop calling each other out on financial issues, branding the onscreen moments “icky.”

The model and cookbook author has long been known to be a fan of the Bravo reality shows, which feature a range of relatively wealthy women—some already famous—as they form and maintain friendships and battle it out with foes.

Executive produced by Andy Cohen, the franchise—which started in 2006 with The Real Housewives of Orange County—showcases women based in various cities and regions across the U.S. There are also international Real Housewives shows.

On Tuesday, Teigen shared an Instagram Story post in which she criticized something she hasn’t enjoyed watching on the hugely popular shows.

“OK, Housewives, you know I love you so much… I’m not saying to stop doing it, because you know what you’re doing,” she started the video. “I watch the show religiously, but it is icky to talk about other people’s money or lack thereof, or that their house is going through something, or they’re struggling, or they can’t afford this, or they can’t afford that.

“It’s so… I don’t know. It makes my stomach turn. It’s icky. It’s not… I don’t know, it’s not cool to talk about. I mean, maybe it’s cool because it’s like, it makes for riveting TV, but it’s not nice. It doesn’t feel good, it doesn’t sit well, and it just makes you look poopy.”

In a follow-up clip, Teigen also told cast members to stop incorporating statements from “random” social media users into their discussions on the shows.

“We’ve got stop with treating random social media accounts as gospel on these shows,” she said in the self-shot clip. “Someone will be like, ‘Um, @Jimmy6969 said that you have been accused of…’ Like, who the f*** cares? Who cares what this rando online has to say? And you treat it as gospel.

“Like, stop it. I love these accounts. I follow a bunch of accounts, but I’m not gonna treat it like f****** The New York Times or Wikipedia. Like, these are randoms online that are saying something. Stop adding this to the show.”

Teigen also said in a third video that she will sometimes “pretend” that dramatic Real Housewives scenes do not the contain the music that has been added in post-production during scenes featuring confrontations between the stars.

“I like to pretend that music doesn’t exist, and it’s just quiet and it’s a regular conversation,” she explained. “And you wouldn’t believe how little drama that their statements have without that music.”

While Teigen is a fan of the shows, she told producer Cohen in May 2023 that she couldn’t see herself taking on a role in The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.

During an appearance on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, the host told Teigen that she would be his “dream celebrity” to add to the cast.

Teigen responded: “I mean I love everything about it, obviously I love watching the show. I don’t think fans of the show are necessarily good on it because we know too much and I think they come in and it seems like they’re too fan-girly.”

“Also it doesn’t seem like it, but I don’t like fighting, I really don’t. I would cry a lot,” the former Deal or No Deal model added.

“Well good, you don’t have to fight, you can be the fun girl,” Cohen interjected, prompting Teigen to counter: “But they hate the fun girl.”
