Cowboys Wide Receiver Calls Dak Prescott Criticism ‘Blasphemy’

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Brandin Cooks is sick and tired of hearing the criticism aimed at his quarterback, Dak Prescott.

Prescott, the runner-up for the NFL‘s Most Valuable Player award winner in 2023, is coming off a season in which he completed a league-high 410 passes for 4,516 yards and a league-best 36 touchdowns. He added another two touchdowns on the ground.

Prescott led the Cowboys to a 12-5 record, but they were upset in the first round of the playoffs by the Green Bay Packers. It was a sour end to an otherwise successful season in Dallas and continued Prescott’s run as a top quarterback since his career began back in 2016.

Cooks was recently asked about the criticism towards his quarterback, and called it “blasphemy.”

“It’s blasphemy. It’s unbelievable,” Cooks said to Jon Machota of The Athletic. “The guy shows up every year, year in and year out. Putting up numbers, leading his team. He can’t do it all by himself. A lot of those great quarterbacks that I’ve been with, Tom (Brady) and Drew (Brees), don’t get me wrong, they won a lot of games, won a lot of Super Bowls, but they had a lot of help around them as well, right?

“Us players around also got to step up. So when we hear that disrespect, I take that personally and as his teammates we should take that personally, because at the end of the day, somebody has got to be able to help him get over that hump so we can go win one.”

The Cowboys selected Prescott in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft. The Mississippi State product burst onto the scene his rookie year, throwing for 3,667 yards with 23 touchdowns and just four interceptions. He added another six rushing touchdowns and, most importantly, led the Cowboys to a 13-3 record. He won the 2016 Offensive Rookie of the Year award.

Prescott has led the Cowboys to a 73-41 record in his 114 career starts. He’s made three Pro Bowls, throwing for 29,459 yards, 202 touchdowns, and 74 interceptions. His one knock has been playoff success, as the Cowboys are just 2-5 in his playoff starts. However, he’s done his part, throwing for 1,962 yards with 14 touchdowns and seven interceptions in those seven games.

Prescott is entering his final year of team control and is set to enter free agency this offseason. If he reaches the open market, it will likely be an all-out bidding war for a high-level quarterback set to turn 32 years old.
