Dad Thinks He’s Rocking Stroller To Keep Baby Asleep, but There’s a Problem

A dad has been filmed rocking his baby’s stroller back and forth during Sunday school in an effort to ensure the tot stays asleep.

There’s just one problem though as his wife revealed in a video posted to TikTok under the handle weareregularmums.

The arrival of a new baby changes a man in more ways than most probably realize. A 2023 study published in the journal Cortex found that men’s brains actually change following the arrival of a baby. Researchers recruited 40 men who agreed to be put into an MRI scanner once curing their partner’s pregnancy and then again six months after their baby was born.

A control group of 17 childless men were also scanned. Scientists identified several significant changes in the brains of the new fathers that were not present in the childless group.

These changes were found in the regions of the cortex responsible for visual processing, attention and empathy toward the baby. This particular dad appears to be displaying plenty in the way of empathy. He’s moving the stroller around continuously to try and keep his infant child asleep.

Unfortunately, as the video demonstrates and his wife explains in the comments, he’s not showing a great attention to detail. The detail in question here being the fact that the baby isn’t actually in the stroller he’s moving from side to side. He’s rocking an empty stroller.

If ever there were a prime example of so-called “baby brain,” it’s this. As his wife explained in the comments section accompanying the video: “He had given the baby to me to feed her like 5 minutes before this.”

Maybe he’s too engrossed in the Sunday school recital they appear to be attending, or maybe they just had a rough night with the little one and he’s severely sleep deprived, but the fact he handed over the child a very short time ago appears to have been missed.

Or at least it has in the video. As the clip comes to an end, the dad can be seen glancing down at the stroller, evidently keen to catch a look at the peaceful bundle of joy who should be lying there.

It’s likely that the moment he noticed nothing at all sitting inside, he stopped rocking the stroller, but that cannot be confirmed.

What is definite, however, is that his wife watching on from the back of the room with their actual baby had a great laugh at his expense. At the time of writing, the video has been watched 1.3 million times.

“I talk a lot about mommas on here but these dads deserve some credit. I’m so grateful my babies have such a good dad whose instincts never fail him,” she wrote alongside the video, evidently poking fun at his actions on the clip.

Newsweek has reached out to weareregularmums for comment.
