A cat playing hide and seek has left the internet in stitches, racking up millions of views.
Sydney (@sydneycasonn) shared adorable footage of her cat, Winnie, trying to hide behind a towel in the bathroom. The playful video quickly garnered 877,963 likes and 7.8 million views.
In the video, Cason humorously narrates the situation. “Oh my god, I wonder where Winnie is. Where could she be?” she asks as Winnie’s tail hilariously sways out from the side of the towel, completely ruining her attempt at hiding.
Winnie’s mom plays along, pretending to be shocked. She gasps in surprise when Winnie eventually makes her grand and adorable appearance, popping her head out from behind the towel and meowing, as if to say, “I’m here!”
Cason captioned the video: “Taking hide and seek to a new level!!!”
While Winnie’s attempt at hiding was clearly all in fun, cats often hide due to their natural instincts. According to Cats Protection, hiding is part of a cat’s behavior inherited from their ancestors. In the wild, cats would seek out secluded spaces to protect themselves from predators or harsh weather.
Even though domestic cats are far removed from their wild counterparts, this behavior remains deeply ingrained.
When a cat feels threatened, anxious, or even unwell, it may instinctively hide to feel safe. It’s also common for cats to retreat to quiet places when they are stressed by changes in their environment, such as new people, loud noises, or unfamiliar surroundings.
Hiding gives them a sense of control and allows them to assess situations from a distance.
However, hiding isn’t always a sign of anxiety or illness. Sometimes cats, like Winnie, hide for fun.

Cats are naturally curious and playful creatures, and games like hide and seek can mimic their instinctive hunting behaviors, giving them an outlet for mental and physical stimulation.
Instagram users were obsessed with Winnie’s adorable antics.
“The way she pokes her head out is precious,” said Paola. Another viewer joked, “You did not see me, right?”
“So precious,” added another cat-lover, who couldn’t get enough of Winnie’s hide-and-seek skills.
One viewer even shared a personal story about her own cat’s love for the game. “My Houdini loves to hide. Especially when I’m doing laundry. He gets under the clothes and peeks out enough to see his eyes. Then I say, where’s my boy, and he jumps out. Too cute. Love their personality.”
