Donald Trump Jr. set the Halloween dress code for MAGA supporters with a trashy garbage bag look that took off online.

As both his father, former president Donald Trump, and Kamala Harris grappled with who had branded who as “garbage” in the aftermath of the Republican Madison Square Garden rally, Trump Jr posted a family photo of him in a black garbage bag, with plastic bottles, see-through plastic bags and scrunched-up brown paper duct taped to his body. The look was further accessorized with a Make America Great Again red cap.

He wrote on X, formerly Twitter: “Happy Halloween. Embrace their hate and own it. Then VOTE! I’m fine being garbage like the rest of you deplorable and irredeemables @patriots!!! Love you all hope you have a blast tonight!!!”

Joe Biden, and consequentially the Harris campaign, has faced outrage after the President apparently called Trump supporters “garbage” on Tuesday, in response to comedian Tony Hinchcliffe labeling Puerto Rico a “floating island of garbage” at the former president’s New York rally on Sunday.

White House spokesman Andrew Bates told Newsweek that Biden was referring to the “hateful rhetoric coming out of the Madison Square Garden rally” and not supporters of Trump. Meanwhile, the former President has denied knowing Hinchcliffe, and Trump’s senior adviser, Danielle Alvarez, has told Newsweek that the “joke does not reflect the views of President Trump or the campaign.”

Newsweek has contacted teams for both the Trump and Harris campaigns, via email outside of working hours, for any further comment.

The Trump campaign appears to have capitalized on the backlash Biden and the Harris campaign are facing, with Trump holding a press conference from a garbage truck at a Wisconsin airport on Wednesday. “How do you like my garbage truck?” Trump asked reporters while leaning out of the passenger-side window. “This truck is in honor of Kamala [Harris] and Joe Biden.”

And other key MAGA figures also slipped into a little black garbage bag echoing Donald Trump Jr.’s look on Halloween.

Several other folks replied to his post with photos of similar outfits, including Trump-supporting photojournalist Victor Wolder (@SnakeMannn), who shared a picture of him in a black garbage bag, gloves donning the American flag and a high-vis vest, sitting next to bowls of candy—seemingly to hand out to trick or treaters. He wrote: “I was garbage too!”

Conservative media figure Megyn Kelly had the same idea, as she wore a black garbage bag, tied in a way that created a dress, and a red MAGA cap. She wrote: “Happy Halloween Garbage People!”

Similarly, conservative political commentator Brett Cooper posted a picture of herself wearing a black garbage bag with an “I voted” sticker on her chest. “This piece of garbage voted yesterday,” she said.

In the comments, responding to someone joking that the garbage bag was a “beautiful designer dress,” she quipped: “It’s a Biden special.”

The Halloween trash bag parade follows claims that White House aides altered a transcript containing Biden’s “garbage” comments.

Asked about Hinchcliffe’s joke during an October 29 Zoom call with the Voto Latino nonprofit, Biden was quoted by media as saying: “The only garbage I see floating out there is his supporters.”

The White House told Newsweek on Tuesday that Biden was referring to the rhetoric at Trump’s rally and not those who vote for him. Officials also shared a transcript of Biden’s call that included an apostrophe on “supporter’s.”

According to an email from the head of the White House stenographer’s office reviewed by The Associated Press, however, the apostrophe was added after members of the White House press team “conferred with the president.”

Many Republicans have compared the remark to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton‘s statement during the 2016 election when she referred to Trump’s supporters as “deplorables,” a remark believed to have hurt the former Democratic nominee’s presidential race.

Biden said in a post to his X account on Tuesday that he had “referred to the hateful rhetoric about Puerto Rico spewed by Trump’s supporter at his Madison Square Garden rally as garbage—which is the only word I can think of to describe it.”

Harris has distanced herself from Biden’s comments, telling reporters on Wednesday, “Let me be clear: I strongly disagree with any criticism of people based on who they vote for.”
