Former NBA Sixth Man of the Year and NCAA champion Montrezl Harrell has found a new home for the upcoming season. However, that home will be in Australia.

ESPN’s Olgun Uluc reported that Harrell will take his talents to Australia and has signed a short-term deal with the Adelaide 36ers.

Harrell will be an injury replacement for another former NBA forward, Jarell Martin. Harrell will replace Martin as he is still recovering from a patellar tendon injury and isn’t expected to be available until later in the year.

After three years at Louisville, the 30-year-old panned out quite the NBA career for himself. In eight NBA seasons, Harrell averaged 12.2 points per game, 5.0 rebounds, 1,3 assists, and 0.8 blocks in 515 games with 36 starts, averaging 20.5 minutes per game.

Harrell played for six NBA teams in his career, including the Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Lakers, Washington Wizards, Charlotte Hornets, and the Philadelphia 76ers. His best season as a pro came in the 2019-20 campaign, where he averaged 18.6 points, 7.1 rebounds per game, 1.7 assists, and 1.1 blocks while shooting 58.0 percent from the field and 65.8 percent from the charity stripe in 63 games.

Harrell came away with his first and only Sixth Man of the Year award that season.

Harrell was selected by the Houston Rockets in the 2015 NBA draft with the No. 32 overall pick in the second round out of Lousiville. He was there for two seasons before the Clippers acquired him along with Patrick Beverley, Sam Dekker, Darrun Hilliard, DeAndre Liggins, Lou Williams, Kyle Wiltjer, and a 2018 first-round pick from the Houston Rockets in exchange for Chris Paul.

The following summer, he resigned with the Clippers on a two-year, $12 million contract and was spectacular in his tenure in L.A. As a Clipper, Harrell put up the best numbers of his career, averaging 15.5 points per game, 5.8 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.1 blocks while shooting 60.7 percent from the field and 64.4 percent from the free throw line in 212 games with only 10 starts.

Following the 2019-20 campaign, Harralle decided to join the Lakers as a free agent, signing a two-year, $19 million contract. His time as a Laker was a roller coaster as he was in and out of rotation at some points. Ultimately, he only played in 9.8 minutes per game in their first-round playoff series against the Phoenix Suns.

After that, Harrell was traded to the Washignton Wizards and bounced around from team to team, from Washignton to Charlotte, and finally to Philadelphia, which was his last stop in the NBA.
