Dogs are creatures of habit and when something disrupts their routine, they make sure their owners know– as demonstrated by this golden retriever who was unimpressed when his owner got a coffee without him.
While dogs can’t drink caffeinated drinks, many outlets help them join the fun by enjoying a ‘puppuccino’, an espresso-sized cup of whipped cream specifically made for dogs.
However, Emma Moriarty, 28, recently went to a coffee shop that doesn’t offer the dog treat, also known as a pup cup, and it’s safe to say that seven-month-old Maverick was not happy.
She spoke to Newsweek about her dog’s reaction, which has since gone viral on TikTok, amassing over 562,000 views. In the video, Maverick refuses to look at Moriarty, who is from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and can be heard explaining why he is “upset” with her.
“I made it up to him by taking him on a social trip the next day to get a pup cup first thing in the morning,” the social media manager told Newsweek, adding, “I’ve learned my lesson to never go to coffee shops that don’t offer pup cups!”

Throughout the short video, shared on an account dedicated to her dogs, @imbluethesiberiann, Maverick gives her a look she captions “side-eye of betrayal.” So far, the September 26 clip has received over 46,000 likes and almost 800 comments.
“That look tells me ‘you still got YOUR coffee’… he is big mad,” joked one user, while another wrote, “At this point, cafés without pup cups should be a crime.”
“He is giving you the silent treatment. He wants you to understand what you did was wrong,” commented a third user.
While TikTok users agree that Maverick’s owner “messed up” by not providing for her dog, Newsweek previously spoke to pet behavior experts to determine if canines can express angry emotions.
Celebrity dog trainer Travis Brorsen told Newsweek: “People may wonder if their dog is angry at them and holding a grudge, but that’s not how dogs’ minds and emotions work. The truth is, dogs aren’t humans.”
Brorsen, host of My Big Fat Pet Makeover on Animal Planet and an expert judge on the Discovery Plus series The Dog Games, said: “Dogs have feelings, sure,” noting that canines can associate a positive or negative feeling with a person, place, or word and “remember it for a very long time.”
However, they cannot hold a grudge. Brorsen said that dogs live in the moment so thankfully for owner Emma, Maverick most likely forgot about the pup cup incident by the time he got home.
