Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell may go down in history as one of Hollywood’s cutest couples, and the actress just revealed the rather NSFW secret behind her and Russell’s 40-year long relationship.
In an interview that surprised fans, Hawn, 78, candidly revealed to E! News that “You have to have good sex.” During the 20-year anniversary of the Goldie Hawn Foundation Love-In Gala on Friday, September 27, the Academy Award-winning actress went on to explain, that “Sex is something that connects you and creates more belonging,” adding, “people who have healthy sexual relationships usually last a lot longer.” The Death Becomes Her star admitted that physical intimacy alone wasn’t enough, saying, “But it’s not just because of the act, it’s because of the warmth and the intimacy that it creates.”
The Golden Globe Award winner added that sometimes, “You have to be nice to each other upon occasion,” as she laughed. She also took a moment to caution couples who don’t always see eye to eye, saying, “You know you’re not the same person.” she told the interviewer. “You don’t think the same way oftentimes. And you have to accept that, but you have to measure: are we having fun, or is this something we want to do? Do we have laughs together? Do we share certain things? You don’t have to share everything,” she said. Hawn went on to reflect about the unrealistic expectations of relationships, admitting that, “We have a lot of expectation, I think, around relationships, but you have to like the person.”

Russell, 73, gave his own two cents on the matter, telling the outlet, “Most people that have been together for a long time, I think, share one thing in common, and that is that after that many years together, you will have experienced just about everything there is to experience together and understand all the ups and downs and what it means.” He added, “I just love the fact that we met and we’re still doing it. We still like being together.”
The Washington D.C. native and Russell have been in a relationship since Valentine’s Day in 1983, and share a son, Wyatt Russell, who has taken after his parents and become a successful actor. Despite having no plans to get married in the future, Hawn and Russell have chosen to stay together and feel that their relationship is just as strong.
