A video highlighting why you shouldn’t listen to other people’s preferences when it comes to decorating has gone viral on TikTok.
Posted by Sam and Ryan (@samandryan), the footage shows their bathroom transformation from start to finish. At the beginning, the room is empty, having been ripped out, with text layered over it saying, “Whatever you do, don’t paint your bathroom pink.”
The next scene shows the couple doing exactly that, and the risk has paid off, judging by the attention it has received.
The October 1 video, captioned, “Your daily reminder to make your home YOUR OWN. Who cares about ‘resale value,’ the new owners will probably rip it all out anyway, and our pink bathroom makes me happy literally every single day,” has 859,500 likes.
“I was so nervous but obsessed with how it turned out!” said Sam in the comments.
With pink tiles, a baby pink sink, and an impressive Mediterranean-inspired shower, the DIY couple have decorated a bathroom they are proud of. However, the same can’t be said for 69 percent of American homeowners who are embarrassed to have people over to their home due to their aesthetic choices, according to a 2023 survey.
The study, commissioned by Slickdeals and conducted by OnePoll, surveyed 2,000 U.S. homeowners and revealed that Americans’ biggest décor regrets include mounting TVs too high above eye level (43 percent) or over the fireplace (40 percent). Additionally, 15 percent regret their paint color choices, particularly avocado green (53 percent), eggshell white (49 percent), and millennial pink (44 percent). But those polled remain hopeful, as they said the most aesthetically impactful “small” home improvement changes are simple ones, such as painting walls (46 percent).

However, this couple’s renovation has been approved by TikTok. One user said, “Pink bathrooms are ALIVE AND WELL.”
Another wrote, “I feel like I’d be so happy to walk into that bathroom every day – I love that we are bringing back color!!” Sam agreed: “It seriously makes me so happy every time I walk by it.”
A third commenter complimented, “I don’t even like pink, but that is a truly tasteful amount of pink! You did amazing.”
Some users can’t take their eyes off the unique shower, which has prompted Sam to share the hard work required to make it happen. It turns out, that the savvy couple saved a fortune after being quoted $15,000 for a Tadelakt plastered wall, which is typically seen in Moroccan architecture. To cut costs, Ryan, who has no experience in plastering, decided to take a course and do it himself, so they spent $6,000 instead.
